Jake Stringer. 42 goals last year in a meh team, club not wanting to commit beyond the clause in his contract of a 1yr extension.

Apparently Merrett went into bat after being disappointed in club for not offering Stringer more.

Would probably cost us a three year contract, is 31 in Apr next year. Has been consistent, relatively uninjured, perennial whipping boy of a ne'er do well club. Him and De Goey rotating from forward to midfield could really be an explosive combination. Dedoro is goneski, so this may be the year we could actually get a trade done (either Stringer or 2mtr).

The problem with Stringer is he starts the season with a 6 pack and finishes it with a keg. Doesn't maintain fitness and inclined to be lazy.

Having said that, 3 years on appropriate $, not huge, could work well.

You know what, I’m warming to the idea! We can get him cheap, I reckon the last chance saloon would encourage a big preseason to get fit. I’m surprised Essendon delisted him. If we can’t get a big-bodied mid/forward in trade or draft, we could do worse.

Imagine it — De Goey, McCreery, Stringer 😳

@Mr Miyagi Stringer hasn't been delisted, he hit a clause which means he's contracted for 2025 but Essendon has declined to extend it past that (at this stage) and (I believe) he's been told that if he wants a longer contract to look elsewhere.

So, he's gettable and despite obvious concerns, I'm warming to the idea as well.

Imagine being able to put Stringer, Jordy and Nick into a centre bounce. It would be carnage. Play him high forward and let Bobby feast on the spills.

I’m a little conflicted mostly coz I believe he hasn’t been a great human being in the past, but the thought of him kicking 6 against the Dons on Anzac Day has some attraction.

Essendon have plenty of talls so they could let him go in hope of adding to their midfield depth? Hmmm🤔

^I'd say McCrae would be a good influence plus if it gives Stringer a chance at a flag he would be disciplined. Our squad SHOULD have 7-8 weeks extra pre-season prior to 2025. That estimate is subject to the assumption of no more whacky early March fixturing

Well at the rate they are going (and the negative reaction here towards anyone mentioned as a potential target), we will get nobody before the draft and most will be satisfied 😳 🙄 I mean WTF 🤬 every possible recruit mentioned has been unmercifully flamed and the only ones being supported are those we are extremely unlikely to get! Get a grip guys FFS 🤦 we need to improve if the club is serious about winning another flag, and part of that process is to get available talent that the club sees as a good get to be stronger. We need to consider Stringer as a good get, along with any others that the club has in their sights on and to hell with the eternal negative nellies who see the worst possible outcome instead of the best one. I have always believed that the club knows best and the last few days have totally reinforced that belief. Go Collingwood, do what’s best for the club like clubs like Geelong and Hawthorn are doing 🙄 I very much doubt that those clubs have the fans we have who are easily spooked by risk taking and constantly jump at shadows 😡 Sick of this nonsense 🤬
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️

^I do agree that the general tone is negative and I think it's driven by the notion that only superstars or close to them will put us in contention next year.

No thank you to Stringer, he can stay where he is.
We don't need another 30+
Or the headlines he would create
Or his lack of effort. Turns up when he feels like it

S'funny, but this is how we viewed De Goey for a long time. We wouldn't have won the flag without him.

Stringer is highly unlikely to make the same waves as an early 20-sumthing (Stephenson, Ginnie, etc). Not certain what he plans to do after football, but I'd reckon that these last 2-3 yrs will be an important nest egg for his future. If there are no other targets we're aiming for then I personally say yes, give him a go.

Oh, and imagine if we (somehow) managed to add Petracca to the mix next year. De Goey, Stringer, and Petracca rotating through our forward line and midfield...
