Commentators on the broadcast saying they reckon he will be the first to actually play out of this crop. Looks to be a real nugget. All the best young fella.

Big lad too and he can run out a game and kick the ball a mile. He came from the country league and busted his nuts to get into the SANFL where he’s showed good form, so he has the work ethic too. Reminds me of Crispy with his run off the back line and kicking.

Some footage of Josh

The 22-year-old graduated from country football in the Sunraysia league to the SANFL with West Adelaide.

A powerful midfielder who can play up forward, a natural ball winner and hard at the footy.

At 189cm and 88kg, Carmichael looks ready to make an impact and is averaging 24 disposals, five clearances and a goal a game this season so far.

He joins a contingent of South Australian players drafted to the club in season 2022.

Bit of a shock he fell to our pick.

We were all in for one of those talls, who all went early. North took Dawson, Hawks took Ramsden, and GWS took Derken.

But because of that, Joshua Carmichael falls to pick 9.

Hopefully Essendon will regret not taking him.

How do we feel about passing with our second pick?

The rush for clubs to take the talls early meant he fell through a bit later than most anticipated. The club won’t be disappointed with the player but ideally, they may have preferred to fill a need that couldn’t be met at pick # 9.
Good size and may be earmarked to pass both C Brown and Bianco by before the end of the season.

Really good. Why bother with a pick just for the sake of it? Obviously we did not see a player who would have been useful to us and that’s fair enough.
Don't confuse your current path with your final destination. Just because it's dark and stormy now doesn't meant that you aren't headed for glorious sunshine!
