Most small forwards like to wait on the outside of the congestion and hope for a give off. Ginnivan isn’t afraid to get in low and lock it in until the cavalry arrive. What makes him such a smart footballer is that he usually picks the right option at the time …. and there are plenty that don’t.

Dropped for the Sydney game, but I assume he will be the sub.

You're probably right, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Harrison get a guernsey. We are yet to play a new kid this season.

I’ve said it all year, Ginnivan is far too good to be dropped. He’s an exceptional talent who invariably makes things happen. The club should buy him some cocaine to celebrate.

Agree, all. The lad's got instinctive footy smarts to go along with that bit of unpredictability and infectious energy. I often think one of the hardest things for that type of personality to cope with is downtime, such as the off-season when their routine is broken. His fitness will build over the year, while we'll get smarter handling off-seasons for different personality types.

Firmly believe that Ginnivan should have been out there from the beginning. We needed someone up forward who could finish our work, but couldn’t buy a goal for long stretches of the first three quarters. There might be games where he’s the perfect choice for sub, but it wasn’t yesterday.

So what do we glean from Jacks exclusion from the seniors for the second week in a row ?
He’s either out of favour, out of form or out of our near best 22 ?

For mine, it’s the same old story. If you don’t improve in the off-season, then you’re going backwards. He mucked up in the off season. No biggie but that sets you up to receive no favours when it’s a tough choice at the selection table.
By all reports, he wasn’t overly impressive against a poor team in the VFL game today. Ive said it many times, ability can take you so far but it’s work effort and doing the extras that take you to the next level.
Jack has an interesting few weeks ahead of him and I would suggest the same could be said for his off season also.

Anyone with eyes can see that Jack doesn't do the unsexy stuff well. He's a revolving door in terms of defensive pressure and as teams clamp dow on his goal kicking ability, he has no other stings to his bow.

So he needs to develop these skills to succeed at this level. At 185cm, he'd have to be averaging Charlie Cameron type goal figures if he's not going to offer much defensive pressure.

Could easily got the way of Jason Cloke. For a season or two, considered very important player, but then drops off the face of the earth
