Look, didn't really hit the scoreboard, but... those lead up marks both he and Mihocek too outside F50 were totally crucial in the scheme of things....

So happy for Jamie.

Had to overcome many obstacles throughout his career, but his persistence and resilience to continue to come back and step up is something to be admired.

Call me biased, but I still think Billy's goal was better than Ashcroft's.

Billy beat his man, used pace and football nous to keep the ball in play in order to to peg his. Ashcroft's while good was more a one act fluke.
Even Mihoceks I'd have taken over Ashcroft's.

^ the Curtis goal was the best of them, I thought. Ashcroft was kind of luckily incidental, and so was Bill’s goal to some extent. The Houston goal was a long kick under pressure but otherwise pretty routine. Checkers’ goal was definitely in the top 3 of the year: held his man out and achieved a bicycle kick under real physical pressure.

Billy is everything you want in an AFL player. Tough, team oriented, self-effacing, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, nerveless, loyal. Just love the boy.

I’m sure this link is in the thread somewhere but it doesn’t hurt to have clutch goals on repeat

I am suggesting that Jamie Elliott's contributions will be critical as the 'Pies aim for another flag.

With McStay out, potentially for the season, the 31 year old will need to deliver another big year. Some may suggest that he is getting on, but he has missed over two seasons with injury issues and appears to have the hunger to play a few more.

With McCreery, Hill, Schultz as partners, I think the dynamic of the Collingwood forward half will rely on more ground-ball gets 9although Elliott and Hill are both good in the air).

I think Mihocek may have some company forward with Cox and Cameron being rested forward although Hoskin-Elliott, De Goey and, potentially, Reef McInnes, Ash Johnson and Bryan Teasel/Josh Eyre (if drafted) are possibilities.

Make no mistake, McStay is a big loss to the side; good clubs struggle to cover such losses- great clubs find a way- let's hope the Magpies can find a way....
Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away...

^ there is a lot of 'hope' in that, and hope isn't an strategy we can rely on.

I'm first in line for Billys fanclub, but it's too much to expect Elliott or any forward to fill a void for what McStay was recruited for.
Undoubtedly Elliot has the ability to impact in spades, but with age and injury, reliability isn't coupled with that. If it was head surfing Billy in his heyday, well maybe the coaches could build around that capability.

McStay and Mihocek were to be the experienced and reliable structures, or sentinels to our forward line foundations.
Schultz has been recruited to give us more creative options offensively and defensively within the F50 arc, but neither he or Elliott are the structural avenues to goal that the big boys offer.

Structurally, the impact without these two will be it offers the best coaches with quality backs like Lever / May, Weiteing / McGovern, Taylor / Buckley an advantage before the ball is bounced and as the season progressess into finals.

Our reality is as it stands, De Goey still presents as most dynamic and explosive forward in our team, but we can't rob Peter to pay Paul.

Just love him. He embodies the leadership, the team spirit, the courage, the will to win and the empathy which won us the flag this year.
