That was an unwelcome start to my Sunday, Carlton.

Necessary reality check, but gee we were soft at times.

Unrecognisable from the first couple of games.

Probably the most pathetic performance I have ever seen from our midfield. TDK, Kennedy and Cerra were embarassing. Walsh poor. Hewett can hold his head up high.

Very nervous for the weeks ahead. I am worried we may be a one trick pony. Win clearance and kick long to tall forwards. The first part of that equation looks susceptable without cripps particularly if our other mids are as garbage as they were today.

A disgusting performance, up there with 2021 for effort. Side is still mentally weak: intuitively I knew we wouldn’t turn up today and I was right.

Cripps injury didn’t help but if we’re a genuine good side we would have found a way. The fact we didn’t raise a yelp speaks volumes.

Lucky we are 4-2, sure doesn’t feel like it after the last 2 games. Tough times ahead if Pitto and Harry are out.

Percentage is telling at the moment. We’re travelling as a mid table team and nothing more.

They’re going to need to do a whole lot better than what we’ve seen lately to have any business at the serious end of the season.

I was all set for a cracker of a game for a Saturday night and we just didn't show up at all.

Our percentage is less than half the teams outside the 8 … our two losses haven’t been close we’ve been convincingly thumped in both … Voss has lots of work to do

Very concerned about a team which is far too reliant on purple patches of centre clearance dominance leading to our key forwards exposing opposition on the 666 rule.

This is our one-wood but it's unreliable and when it's not working we look bog ordinary in most other facets of the game. That's the honest truth right now.

Thanks, Jezza. There isn't (yet) quite as much angst as in their glory days - but we have started to get a whiff of the dead rat they're cooking.

I don't quite know whether I'm more thrilled for Carlton or for Voss. I love them both equally.

The final margin flattered Carlton. They got the first two goals of the game but then from late in the first quarter to early in the third, Freo kicked 11 goals to 3 to kill the game. By that time, Freo was double Carlton's score (74 to 37). Freo just sat on the splice after that.

It was a messy game all around.

I'm not at all one for blaming the umpires, but, I did feel that had an equally poor day, and that contributed to the team failing to settle.

I'm also not a fan of "they'll learn from that" as a reaction to a loss, but, I do think losing a close one when we've been poor will be a lesson they had to learn.

Just a flat team today, making some simply stupid decisions. Luckily Collingwood were equally flat, and struggled in front of goal.

Nevertheless, some flashes of brilliance here and there, and a few players really put their heart into it.

I'm strangely calm about the loss. But they need to ensure it's a blip along the way, not a season turning point.

Ultimately a disappointing day at the footy. We were outplayed for the majority of the day but still did enough to almost pinch it late. Stings a little bit more given the opponent too of course.

I'm more devastated about the injury than the loss. It could really derail our season.

You know the 1 thing that annoyed me more than anything about yesterday.

The fact that bloody De Goey should've put his head over the ball and instead flaked it when he saw players coming at him leading to weiters bump and injury.

Yesterday reminded me why I haven't been to a Collingwood game in years.
From the screeching banshee behind me abusing the shit our of her own players from the first bounce to the last, with the exception of Ginnivan who she wanted to have kids with, to their brainless zombie "Coll-ing-wooood" chant, to the bloke wanting to punch on with a Carlton supporter who was built like an oak tree after the game while his partner consoled his hysterical kid it wasn't a pleasant experience.

As for the game itself, I was less disappointed than I thought I'd be. Played poorly, lost one if the best defenders in the comp early, but almost snatched the win. So much better than previous seasons.

Collingwood were clearly the better side however in the end our match committee probably cost us the match

I was mocked during the week for being nervous about this game… yet here we are.

We - supporters and players - get too ahead of ourselves after a few wins.

Pies had the edge aerially especially with Weitering going down.

We should have lost that by a few more goals, pies missed a heap.

That loss would have stung the players as much as the supporters - but it might be an important step in the journey for the group.

Genuine BIG game footy - even against an ordinary side like the pies - is a whole different level. Not going to win many of that style of game (finals level) going missing for an entire quarter like we have done quite a few times this year (including tonight).
