Cannot make an informed comment until after the entire draft process has concluded. We may have a player earmarked to be pounced on later.inxs88 wrote:What do we need know about drafting (disclaimer) but Hine and Co must have had a 9pm booking at Gold Class as we packed up and bailed after the Jiath pick. Like hanging out till 3am at the nightclub, you just never know who'll be waiting and the Saints took Schoenmaker at pick 62 after we passed at pick 60!!
Just don't get it. SSP picks are the dregs, all respect aside, of the talent pool. We definitely are philosophically opposed to the Lions who went tall and tall with their picks of Morris and Lloyd. Can't help but feel that Schoenmakers who averaged 27 possessions, 6 intercepts, booming left foot and with versatility would have been handy as insurance for N Murphy and be superior than anything we add tomorrow in the Rookie Draft and March SSP Draft.
Thoughts?
Thinking ahead to 2023 draft...

I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm

Looking at his highlights again he's not exactly a plodder but he's not quick either, and after what Hine said about run he may not have made the grade for that reason.piffdog wrote:Alternative theory on Shoenmakers... Some print articles described him as "laddish" and he did serve a 10 week suspension earlier in his youth comp for some kind of off field issue.

Adding and removing players from an AFL list is no different to running any other business. Most decisions are based on either risk vs reward or return on investment. It’s not as simple as saying Shoenmakers is a free hit as a very late pick because at around $170,000 + to sustain a player on an AFL list for a year, it’s anything but a free hit. Added to that, is the development component of the program and the reasoning for not taking him would / could be as simple as why put time into a guy we don’t think will make it ( and at #60 odd that’s a fair chance ) when our assistants can then divide their time amongst less players who they believe will make it ( and obviously history shows there are still no guarantees)Kingsofclutch wrote:Looking at his highlights again he's not exactly a plodder but he's not quick either, and after what Hine said about run he may not have made the grade for that reason.piffdog wrote:Alternative theory on Shoenmakers... This is why our club and most others generally defer to next best in any draft.
You are far better to be left with a surplus of those who can play, as opposed to a surplus of fit for purpose players who don’t cut it. At least if you have a decent player who isn’t getting a go in a strong side, you can trade him out and cut your losses on the investment. Conversely, you won’t get any return on a 200cm player who can’t play, no matter how good his Combine numbers were.

Pre Season and Rookie Draft about to start, think it'll be quiet for us unless Hine is foxing.

gees well wasn't the PSD and Rookie Draft exciting. Shows you how much time they pad out the Main draft whilst the clubs sit around looking uncomfortable and then smug once the pick bell goes off.
Hine said we'll take on 4 players to train and leave a spot for the MSD. How soon before they publish the train on list?

Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

Not sure but you'd think Sofronidis, Eyre and Kelly will feature, still looking for that extra tall back, Jiath won't be ready for a few seasons..The Black and White Lion wrote:

Does anyone who’s been paying more attention than me know how many list spots we have left to fill?Kingsofclutch wrote:That's it til the SSP.
The Magpies decided to pass on their final selection at the draft and aren't expected to be involved in Wednesday's Rookie Draft.
The club is planning to carry multiple list spots through the pre-season for the Supplemental Selection Period, and will reserve at least one spot for next year's Mid-Season Draft.

Sounds to me like Will Kelly must be a strong chance to get another crack.
