What do we need know about drafting (disclaimer) but Hine and Co must have had a 9pm booking at Gold Class as we packed up and bailed after the Jiath pick. Like hanging out till 3am at the nightclub, you just never know who'll be waiting and the Saints took Schoenmaker at pick 62 after we passed at pick 60!!
Just don't get it. SSP picks are the dregs, all respect aside, of the talent pool. We definitely are philosophically opposed to the Lions who went tall and tall with their picks of Morris and Lloyd. Can't help but feel that Schoenmakers who averaged 27 possessions, 6 intercepts, booming left foot and with versatility would have been handy as insurance for N Murphy and be superior than anything we add tomorrow in the Rookie Draft and March SSP Draft.
Thoughts?

That's it til the SSP.
The Magpies decided to pass on their final selection at the draft and aren't expected to be involved in Wednesday's Rookie Draft.
The club is planning to carry multiple list spots through the pre-season for the Supplemental Selection Period, and will reserve at least one spot for next year's Mid-Season Draft.

These are the updated SSP rules from 4 days ago, you can see what we are up to, upgrade a Begg Dean Steene or JC (can't stay on 35) and that gives us 3 rookie spots open meaning we can trial a maximum 6 players over Summer, we are a ruthless professional outfit these days.
To be eligible for the SSP, players must have nominated for the most recent AFL Draft or previously been on an AFL list.
Clubs will have two windows to formally sign a player via the SSP: November 27 to December 14 and January 15 to February 19.
Only two players can audition during the pre-season per list spot available, with a maximum of six players able to trial at the same club at one time.

Having a spot left aside for the MSD is a desirable option these days. Spotting talent for the MSD is a very different dynamic because you are generally looking at ( mature ) bodies who have put together a body of work for half of the current season before selecting them. Obviously spots open up with any LTI but should the injury gods be kind to you, then you can’t have a pick unless you have that spot already put aside for them.Kingsofclutch wrote:That's it til the SSP.

Read about it. Nice rounded article...
The Magpies' double coup is set to allow the likes of Pendlebury and Nick Daicos to spend more time through midfield, with Hine noting the likes of Jakob Ryan and Harvey Harrison will also be called on to provide some run.
Nathan Murphy is "fine"

AFL Draft: Collingwood send clear-cut message after double draft coup

AFL Draft 2023 Day 2:
Collingwood has plans to release superstar Nick Daicos into more of a permanent midfield berth after taking a pair of dashing defenders who can meet the team’s running needs....

Alternative theory on Shoenmakers... Maybe he didnt screen well from a personality perspective? Some print articles described him as "laddish" and he did serve a 10 week suspension earlier in his youth comp for some kind of off field issue.
I know what youre gonna say "he's only a kid" and all that, but I cant help but think we just moved on Ginni in part because of his attitude, and have had to work through Jordy's issues over the last couple years (which many on this board were fed up with).
Maybe you take Harley Reid in the top despite his character (for example - I dont know Harley - could be a lovely kid), but when youre getting into the 30/s, 50's and you have plenty of choices maybe character makes up a larger part of your decision making??
Anwyay - I dont know Shoenmakers either (maybe he also has impeccable character) but sometimes where there's smoke there's fire (?) and I think having a functional locker room is important.
Happy with our draft picks - but lets be honest it will be 3 or 4 years before we knoe if we have got a couple of 200 gamers...

It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...
