I love Checkers too.

However, if memory serves me correctly, he's never kicked many goals in finals.

Hopefully, McStays presence next year will relieve some pressure off him. Luckily Bobby Hill was amazing, but our side really needs to be able to depend on a key forward kicking 3 goals in finals games.

Always loved Checkers.
This is a fantastic consistent performance. Which will only get better with another tall forward beside him more often. Mcstay, Ash Johnson, Resting ruckman ...

The not-so-traditional pathway of the Rookie Draft:
Top 10 stars who have used this route to success in the past decade

6. Brody Mihocek 2017 (pick 22 rookie draft) Collingwood

After winning the 2017 premiership for Port Melbourne in the VFL the mature 24-year-old finally got his crack at the AFL level and has taken it with both hands. The defender-turned-forward has not missed a beat for the Pies playing in the 2018 grand final in his first season and winning a much-deserved premiership in 2023.

Mihocek epitomises the term blue collar footballer whereby every Pies fan who goes through the gates knows what they are getting from the forward, winning Colliingwood’s leading goalkicking award five times out of his six seasons in the AFL.

The one for "every" Toby Greene goal came out 5 days ago...

And looks like Toby didn't kick any goals in the PF.

So we won by 13?

Checkers might not top my KF all-time favourites, but I have always rated his contribution. Much maligned, but has proven to be as just as worthy as any other accomplished AFL KP forward. (Excluding the few elites, of course)

I often wondered how he'd fare as a third tall with the support of a couple of Gun KF forwards.

I think now Brody Mihocek can be rated as a "gun KPF" if you look at his workrate and conversion of goals. The fact is he is a premiership CHF and his performance during this latest finals series was terrific. There was a period earlier in his career where he was suspect in big games where he could go missing, but I think that was when he was better suited to the 3rd tall role. Now with the extra experience gained over a number of years in the role of key forward he has grown into a terrific KPF.
Mihocek's workrate remains high as does his marking strength but it's his 2nd efforts after a contested ball hits the ground and skill set in kicking goals that has reached new levels. It's a shame that McStay has done his knee and will miss this coming season as he offered some depth in the key forward position so now Collingwood will again be dependent upon Brody Mihocek to carry that role pretty much on his own. It's a long season and Mihocek is getting older with the style of play he has his body gets beaten up a lot faster than other positions. He is probably one of the three most important players at Collingwood this season for providing the team structure required for another tilt at the premiership.
Collingwood Domination. Envy of the Nation!
