He can’t do anything at the moment. He’s just an athlete. Jimmy Stynes went ok after a while. I think it took him about three years. I’m hoping the same for Faye but I wouldn’t bet my house on it.

Agree with everything said

The kid is only 18.... 18 !!!!!! Holy Crap

He's got Guns with arteries the size of my arm.

At 202 cm, he is probably still growing, and about those skinny legs. I don't think they are that skinny. He is a big boy, and they may look out of proportion to those Arms.

Yes, he kicks a footy like a duck kicks a tennis ball , but let's keep our fingers crossed on that one.

So far, could be a dud or Holy Bejesus !

Doesn't seem to be playing anywhere.
Was signed to a International scholarship, 3 year I believe.

Anyone know more re:Bassirou Faye?

202cm and yet to turn 20.

We know he played for the Oakleigh Chargers in 2022, but has not featured for the Collingwood VFL team. Not really sure how it works. He signed an international scholarship with the club, but can he play for our VFL team? Would he need to be drafted, or can he enter our rookie list at some point?

For those that know more, how has he been for the Chargers? Has he showed any signs of being able to play AFL footy?

I did some investigating last month and it seems he only played the once for the Chargers, in the second-last match of the season, and only recorded five disposals and seven hitouts. So it must still be very early days for him:

David wrote:seems to have been signed to the club on some kind of long-term scholarship arrangement, but has only just started playing competitive football with the Oakleigh Chargers. This Twitter post is from August, and that game (the penultimate match of the NAB League home and away season) appears to be the only match of any kind he's played so far:

No word on why it's taken him so long; the article announcing his signing back in mid 2021 reported that he "will play games for the Oakleigh Chargers this season [i.e. 2021] and will be part of the Pies’ program full-time", and at least the first of these seems to have never transpired:

So I'm guessing he might still be a long way off even VFL level and perhaps behind whatever development path was envisioned at the time of his signing. But this is all conjecture, of course, given the extremely limited info that's out there on him.

What's happening with Bassirou Faye

Post by stui magpie »

He came in 2 years ago on some sort of scholarship. On his Insta he looks like he's been playing some games and rucks like Nic nat.

Anyone got any news on what's happening here?

So he’s on track then, that’s all you had to say.
