Sri Lanka vs. England

Post by Donny »

Back to back centuries for Sanath Jayasuriya enabled Sri Lanka to score a healthy 7/284 against England, today at the SCG. Sri Lanka won the toss.

Jayasuriya has returned to his best and today's knock of 106 from 110 balls reminded us just how dangerous this batsman can be. DeSilva's 51 from 59 was also important for Sri Lanka and Jayawardene played well at the death with 33 from 30.

Andy Caddick was, by far, the best for England. He bowled 3 maidens in his 10 overs and finished with 2/29.

It must be so frustrating for England's openers, Nick Knight and Marcus Trescothic. Again they put their team in a winning position, this time with a 115 opening partnership, only to see it go to waste again.

England may still pull this one out of the fire but they'll need a miracle.

England are 9/234. Murali just took his 300th. wicket to join Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Anil Kumble in the 300 club.

Caddick hits DeSilva for a big 6 but England now need 38 from the last two overs.

Now 33 from the last.

All over. Aravinda takes the last wicket to finish with 4/30.

Sri Lanka are now 2 points behind England in the VB series.

I agree with you Donny! Jayasuriya is definately in fine form and DeSilva played a very good game also! You are damn right about the English opening batsman being upset they have set a few big opening partnerships only to be let down! I think England definately need Vaughan back in the team ASAP!

England need Vaughan but i would also play Butcher as their tail is too long at the moment.

Two silly runouts and poor catching also cost them dearly. It is embarrassing to let Aravinda de Silva make a 50 and take 4 wickets. Aravinda has been a great player and a pioneer of Sri Lankan cricket but surely he is past his use by date.

I can't work out why Irani is in the team ? Doesnt take wickets and doesnt score runs. They desperately need Craig White back in the team as well.

Harmison needs to go see a psychologist as he has the ability but his problems are in the head i think. After that he should go see Dennis Lillee or someone of that ilk.

Nick Knight
Marcus Trescothick
Michael Vaughan
Nasser Hussain
Mark Butcher
Alec Stewart
Craig White
Ian Blackwell
Andy Caddick
James Anderson
Steve Harmison
