SIDCHROME SUPER TEST TEAM
Thats what it used to be called in the old days and im not sure what they call it now. Anyway here is my team
M. Hayden (Aus)
M. Vaughan (Eng)
R. Ponting (Aus)
M. Butcher (Eng)
N. Hussain (Eng)
S. Waugh (Aus)
A. Gilchrist(Aus)
S. Warne (Aus)
J. Gilesppie(Aus)
G. McGrath (Aus)
A. Caddick (Eng)
I havnt analysed the stats and i have gone from what i have seen and read. The batting i thought was difficult as Martyn and Lehmann didn't really dominate for Australia. Martyn had a great Perth test match but overall was disappointing. I ended up choosing Hussain and Butcher as they had to face the better bowling attack. Martin Love only played one test so he could not be considered. I found a place for Steve Waugh as i thought he was better than Martyn, Lehmann, Crawley, Stewart, Key and Trescothick.
McGrath Warne and Gilesppie pick themselves. The last bowling spot i gave to Caddick ahead of Brett Lee. Caddick has been criticised but he has taken a few wickets. Gilchrist picked himself.
I look forward to seeing everyone elses teams.

Just one change, m8. Vaughan could bat anywhere and Tugga simply has to be in there for his captaincy. I wouldn't let Nasser lead my dogs on their morning walk. Lol.

I picked Love coz I like the way he plays, even if he only played two games. He impresses me, lovely timer of the ball.
Lee is averaging 41 with the ball this series which isn't great but I picked him more on ability than the series he had. None the other bowlers really impress me that much.

Damien Martyn averaged 40.00!!! What do people think of the series he had?? After all this is a batsman in the prine of his career.

And what quality of bowler did Lehmann face ?? Lets reverse the roles and put Butcher facing the English attack and Lehmann facing the aussie attack.
Still think the result would be the same ??
This was Lehmanns big opportunity to establish himself in the test arena and he blew it. U can't see him doing any better in the West Indies on the pitches over there.

No, m8. He averages much better against Aussie bowlers. 53.85, actually.
What would this forum be without you, JLC. Lol. You're our best customer.

Thats shield cricket where Lehmann belongs good point. He would be right at home in the four day game.
There wouldn't be that many occassions were he has to face Warne, McGrath in shield cricket as they rarely play. Obviously he never faces Gilesppie as they play for the same state. Therefore it would be very interesting to see him face them.
If only he could average 53 against the big boys

JLC, I agree Lehman is better suited to the shield stuff. I do think that Love will go on to do really well in the West Indies and cement his spot.
Magfan good call on Hussain.....he is a shocker of a captain, I was actually thinking part way through the innings when Lee and Dizzy were getting on top of the bowling that he looked like he was throwing it away by spreading the field...thought he was doing a Tim Watson and handing it too us. He is a poor captain in my books and some of his field placings were atrocious...it is a wonder old Alex didn't stroll down and punch him one a couple of times.
just for fun lets ee what the peoples worst team would be..maybe call it the Super Cheap Auto Brand Spanner team...lol
"NEVER LEAVE, NEVER GIVE UP ON THEM AND ALWAYS BE THERE AT THE END TO CLAP THEM OFF THE GROUND. WE ARE COLLINGWOOD SUPPORTERS SON, EVEN IF THEY BEAT US, WE ARE STILL BETTER THAN THEM!"(quote from my mum when I was 8 years old)

Very interesting to see that Geoff Lawson one of the people who was involved in selection of Vaughan said they considered the quality of the bowling attack he faced when comparing him to Gilchrist and Hayden. Thats exactly my point when comparing Butcher and Hussain with Lehmann and Martyn and Waugh.
Can you imagine the carnage that Vaughan would have done if he had faced the English attack >?> I shudder to think how many runs he would have scored then!!!!
Also don't forget that Lehmanns home ground is the BATTER FRIENDLY Adelaide oval. Im sure of the Victorian batsman like Elliot and Hodge would love to play on Batter friendly wickets every second game
