Collingwood, Gold Coast and Port Adelaide remain at an impasse in discussions that would effectively be a three-way deal for Dan Houston to get to the Magpies – which is now his preferred destination – with John Noble and Joe Richards moving to the Suns and Power respectively.

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
So it's sounding like the three clubs are trying to iron out the deal. It's also mentioned that the longer it goes on, the chance of North/Blues trying to get in on pick 13 grows.
We now know that Joe wants Port, Nobel wants Suns, and most importantly Houston wants Pies.
It sounds like we offered our F1 and Noble to the Suns for 13 and 23. The Suns have not gone for this deal. We also want 23 to use on draft night. It's also mentioned that Port are unlikely to accept just 13 and Joe for Houston. This also ties in with Suns trading Lukosius to Port. So it's a bit messy.
What's important is the clubs are talking. But I'm a bit worried that we may end up paying more than we can afford. And I really want to get this over the line soon so that 1. we're not waiting until the death, and 2. we can get some time to look at other deals (Kennedy, etc).

Apparently the age are reporting he has chosen Collingwood!

Reads to me like it will happen. Just some positioning. Never getting that pick 23. Will be the later one at best!

Only until he gets you to the other side.
Then you pay him

Chuffed to have seen 3 flag wins in my lifetime but still greedy for more.

My gut is it won’t but let’s see…Piesnchess wrote: ↑Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:47 pm

"Preferred destination" is the exact words used in The Age article.
I'd love Houston to make it official that he wants a trade to us.

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
I wonder if the 3 clubs can get together and work out a 3 way trade?
Simply, Port wants Lukosios from Suns and Richards from Pies
Pies want Huoston from Port
Suns want Noble from the Pies.
So as a starting point, agree to move those 4 players and then see what picks need to go from where to who to make it even.
Port losing Huoston but gaining Lukosios and Richards looks roughly even
Suns losing Lukosios (who they don't really want) and getting Noble (who they do want) is fairly even
Pies losing Noble and Richards but gaining Heuston is fairly even, slight win.
It really shouldn't need much in the way of swapping picks around to make everyone happy.

^You make it sound so rational. I just wish the Houston problem was done and dusted, either way, so we could move on already. For me the interest will be found in the unexpected trades.

^yeah they wanted Didak for Stevens. Then Carlton benefited and got him as a delisted player in the PSD.

And this incident reveals a bit about the Corn. He looks back on it happily, as though it was a win for his club because they got the flag the following year and Steven's got to wallow in blue for the rest of his career.
Yeah, PA can be a bit...feral. Oh well, if they play hardball there, maybe we try to offer Richards to Freo? See if they'll bite.

This is becoming a sideshow, so the trade period should be shorter. It is the same BS Every year.

Re: Trade Winds: Dan Houston
^I think this trade with Port/Pies/Suns will eventually take place @SLORT . But it is a bit of a nervous wait for us with Blues/North lurking. That and how we dont want to lose too many picks in the trade.
It's interesting with Freo now putting up their pick 11, which I think they got from us for Schultz. I just want a shot at Tauru and Whitlock twins in the draft. But I also want Houston and Kennedy too. I'm hopeful we can walk away with at least one of those.
