Donny.
It's a game. Enjoy it.

It's hard to get excited about this game, after 3 dismal performances.
I doubt there'll be more than one or two changes to our team. I expect WHE will return, possibly at the expense of Markov. I also expect Macrae to start. This time Frampton should stay in defence, where he plays his best football, rather than positioning him as a defensive forward as we did in the Grannie.
The wins, against anyone, will only come from an improved team performance, rather than individual personnel changes. If we can re-discover our manic intensity all over the ground, we have the talent to beat anyone. I'm hoping we use Cameron more as a forward and use Cox predominantly in the ruck.
I honestly don't know what to expect, but I'm tipping (maybe with my heart and not my head) the Pies by 7 points.

Freshen up the Squad for this game with some pace and vitality:
OUTS:
* Mitchell: omit
* Steele: omit but call it managed
* Markov: omit
* McCreery: time for a spell
INS:
* Macrae: into the 22
* Noble: some pace and dare
* Allan: GIVE HIM A GO FINALLY
* Richards: maligned by many but has talent and pace

JDG is not impacting the game in the manner he did last year. Other teams are devoting considerable time and attention to smothering him with a tag.
I think he should build up some energy by playing forward. Then we need another mid to reinforce the midfield.
I think we could do the following:
OUT: Titch (omitted/managed) ; Markov (omitted) ; Sidey (managed)
IN: McCrae (for full game) ; Noble ; Sullivan

Free Julian Assange!!

I see it as one of those unique seasons when it takes you about five or six games to correctly establish the players pecking order in terms of selection. You’re always going to trust your premiership team for round one of the following season ( injuries aside ) The club would know they have a core of young blokes who seem to have improved over the pre season but those young guys don’t play any real footy until the seniors had already played the first three rounds. That situation of “ premiers over promise “ is far from perfect, so you err on the side of caution and go with what you know and have trusted previously for the first few weeks. Make no doubt, if we keep losing, the changes and a bit of new blood won’t be far away. Frampton and McInnes will have their ups and downs but already they have shown to be upgrades on their predecessors, in the short term at least. Markov will be running out of chances and Mitchell looks like he needs a heavy training block rather than just going through the motions every weekend.
I would also expect a player driven “ honesty session “ is looming large. They can be very powerful tools for naming and shaming players performances, all the while still being conducted behind closed doors and not within ear shot of the coaching panel. To me, it looks like the players are waiting for someone else to kick start them rather than taking that challenge on themselves. ( I think that’s where Murphy has been missed. He’s totally uncompromising in his attack on the footy and that’s where players are reminded of the standards required )

I can't bare to watch this game but we need a blinding start and a blinding game up there. This could be tougher than the 2022 prelim but without our players having the belief to win.
In 2007 we missed the GF by a kick or so and Port got pantsed by the Cats to the tune of so many points they stopped counting. In our prelim final rematch, the Pies smashed the Cats to smithereens, 86 points I think. Whilst we beat the lions in the GF I fear one of those style results. We've hardly given a yelp so far and the lions had a break to study the tape and learn the defensive patterns the GWS and Swans used throughout and the Saints used in the third quarter against us. If the lions get a start on us I can't see us making headway up there in the humid evening and the game turning into a drubbing.
I really hope its the former, we bring in some fresh legs, rest some old ones, play some tactics and move the magnets around to shake it up.
Cox spent as much time horizontal as vertical in the first 3 games but we're not playing table hockey. Very lucky to get another run if he does. Markov, Mitchell and one of Crisp / Sidey to have a rest. Noble, Harrison, Sullivan and Begg in line for a trip north in my opinion but I expect Fly will take WHE with him into the 22

Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

The fact is we haven't been able to beat the Lions up there even in our premiership year in good form. What hope now? Buckley's and none.
I'm sorry, but in today's AFL you can't just flick the switch. For Collingwood to win the flag last year every little thing had to go right when it mattered - and it did. But we are just not talented enough across the board to cover for a team devoid of confidence and form. Lions by 35. They will be itching to get back at us for the GF.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result
People need to park the past exactly where it belongs in the past and start looking ahead
How will we know if Allen, Harrison, McRae, Begg, Sullivan etc are any chance of being AFL players if we don’t give them extended runs ?
I’m nit saying all should play this week but we can’t let the status quo remain the same
Maybe make some changes to starting positions ?
Really there should be 5 or 6 changed but that won’t happen it more like 2 maybe 3
In - WHE, Noble, Allen
Out - Mitchell, Sidey, Elliott
McRae into starting role crisp to sub
WHE to play forward
Noble on a wing
Allen on a wing
Josh D to small forward
McCreery to the middle
Pendles forward or back
Just move some magnets around and see if some youth can bring some enthusiasm
