Supplemental Selection Period - how it works & invitees

Post by WhyPhilWhy? »

Just to be clear, the Supplemental Selection Period (“SSP') allows us to invite any player not listed by another club down to train through the summer and if we like them, we can just sign them?

I assume they would have needed to nominate for the draft before hand, otherwise it would be too easy to manipulate the process.

Also, I assume another club could make an offer to the player training with us and we would have to decide whether to match or better that offer? And vice versa of course.

SSP: training for Pies list spot
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2023/11/27/ ... list-spot/

Up to six players can trial at the same club at one time and the Magpies have invited five to take part in the pre-season.

* Collingwood VFL co-captain Campbell Hustwaite
* former Essendon tall Josh Eyre has also earned an invite.
* Sam Sofronidis who hails from VAFA club Collegians.
Two invitees have recently come off AFL lists
* ex-Port Adelaide ruck Brynn Teakle and
* ex-St Kilda midfielder Jack Bytel

There's no order of selection or similar - its a free for all, and even if a club spots a player "training the house down" at another club (eg Markov) they can pinch them from there?

Anyone that does get down to our spiritual home for the pre-season training sessions, keep a watch on Brynn Teakle.

I'm also surprised we're the only Club having a look at Jack Bytel. Just too injury prone?

Seriously, with some of our mega profits, let's fly Josh to Moore's Doctor overseas and get those Hammys right.

How do you pronounce Eyre?
Is it like Erie? Like Erie Kid from my fave film The Sting? Or is it like Air... which is also a good movie...

I have a feeling that it’s pronounced “Air”, as was the pronunciation used when referring to Damien Eyre, one of the police officers who died in the Walsh street murders tragedy.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm ☔️

"FOOTSCRAY captain Lachie Sullivan has been invited to trial for a spot on Collingwood's rookie list during the pre-season supplemental selection period (SSP).

The 26-year-old produced another standout season in the VFL, winning the Coaches MVP Award after averaging 30.9 disposals, 7.6 clearances, 5.9 tackles and 4.4 inside 50s across 20 appearances.

Sullivan also finished equal third in the J.J. Liston Trophy behind Brisbane midfielder Jarryd Lyons after being named captain in the VFL Team of the Year, where he was picked in the midfield. "
