Collingwood’s Senegalese ruck prospect Bassirou Faye has been suspended by the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League tribunal after a dramatic altercation while playing with Frankston YCW.
The Collingwood international rookie scholarship holder was suspended for a total of three matches for striking by the tribunal on Wednesday night.
Faye will effectively go four weeks without playing, with Frankston YCW not playing on the King’s Birthday weekend.
The 21-year-old ruckman started the season playing with Sorrento but switched clubs last month, joining reigning premiers Frankston YCW.
Making his senior debut for the Stonecats on Saturday, Faye lashed out at several Mt Eliza players in the opening minutes of the game and was red carded.
At the tribunal he was handed a two-game suspension for striking Mt Eliza co-captain Nathan Scagliarini. He also was outed for one match for striking Lachlan Williams after accepting an early guilty plea.
Frankston YCW pleaded guilty and successfully got the charge downgraded to intentional conduct, medium impact and high contact.
Further:
[Frankston YCW coach] Goonan said YCW would wrap their arms around Faye and continue to encourage and teach him.
“I know there’s a lot of talk from players and people from other clubs saying, ‘get rid of him, you’ve got to get that bloke out of your club’. And that’s completely naive to the whole thing.
“He’s here on an international sports scholarship that Collingwood are basically supporting.
“He’s a great person.
“He’s a 21 year old, highly educated young man but he comes from a completely different background. So you’ve just got to understand it and learn it. That’s what the AFL see in him, and we’re really excited to help him.
“I was talking to him last Sunday and I said, ‘how did you enjoy it?’ He said ‘I absolutely love it, I loved the preparation that goes into playing a game of football’. The planning, the warm ups, he said it’s so professional. He said he’s completely fallen in love with it.”
And from Reddit, when someone asked the same question today:
As of 2023 playing for the Frankston YCW, in the MPNFL Dic 1 seniors.
18 games, which included a string of finals, including the grand final. Polled some best player votes in a handful of them.
Looks very raw still and needs to build up his his tank.

Was that the Frankston match when Ginni was assaulted? They have a few lowlife dickheads in their team, so I’m assuming the Frankston wanker did something to earn it.
