Here is the timeline "worm" from the AFL website.
I had never before seen such timeline not exceeding 2 goals either way for the whole match.
After kicking the initial 2 goals, we trended down until Brisbane reached a 2 goal differential themselves. After that, in the mid second quarter, we had a spurt on and mostly kept our head above water.
Look at all those points both sides kicked in the beginning of the last quarter!

Stuff like that list unfortunately makes AI journalism seem more appealing. No actual thought or analysis seems to have gone into it at all.inxs88 wrote:Wow IQ gets a 7/10 and Fin "one game" Macrae gets a 6/10.

Let's see: The opposition sour grapes think they are better than us after losing, maybe we can show them again next year and make them eat their words. While Steven May’s dig at Collingwood has raised eyebrows, he wasn’t the only one over the weekend to take a shot at the premiers...
‘It f***ing hurts’: Honest May says Demons ‘so much better’ than premiers Pies in B&F speech
A very honest Steven May declared Melbourne “should have smoked” Collingwood in their qualifying final and was “so much better” than the eventual premier.

‘Better than these teams’: Another swipe at Pies as Crows star lifts lid on GF message to teammates
Speaking after winning the club’s best and fairest on Saturday night, Adelaide skipper Jordan Dawson revealed he messaged teammates during the grand final to tell them the Crows were better than Collingwood and Brisbane.

Simply motivational porn for demoralised teammates, who have to take a step up in 2024.Pies4shaw wrote:Adelaide haven't beaten Collingwood for 7 and a half years, so that's a fairly stupid thing for Dawson to have said.
Melbourne has beaten Collingwood twice in the last 10 match-ups (once by just 4 points), so that's a fairly stupid thing for May to have said.

So, looking at the "McRae Era" stats as at the end of 2023 (see here: https://www.magpies.net/nick/bb/viewtopic.php?t=90119 ), the team for Finals was very settled across 2022 and 2023.
There were 18 players who played all 6 Collingwood Finals.
If you add Naicos, Mitchell, Hill, McStay/Frampton to that bunch, it seems that (in both years) Collingwood had a clear view of its Finals 22 and they were almost all available to take the field in almost all games.
Given the time spent arguing on here about who should come in and who should go out and whether players were or were not "best 23", it seems like the Football Department had a very clear view of that all along.
Obviously there were a few players unavailable at the business end, particularly Adams and Johnson (who played all 3 Finals in 2022 but was injured this year) but, by and large, the Club knew who they wanted to play when it counted and was largely able to get them onto the park. A fantastic planning and recruitment effort, really.
