My favourite obscure stat:

Collingwood has headed the premiership table (ie had the most premierships at any given time) longer than the other 17 clubs all put together.

David wrote:.People who know their early Collingwood history will know how much of a villain Minogue was seen as by supporters after turning his back on the club after World War I.
According to Glenn McFarlanes' fantastic bio of Jock McHale, Jock was dirty on Minogue for switching to Richmond and never forgave him. (On the flipside to that, Minogue was a war hero and their were some rumblings at the time that Jock being a staunch Irish Catholic and anti-English avoided the war for personal political reasons)

Any luck David in the hope you've found a connection in your own family tree?

Related to this, the Collingwood F/S (and now father / daughter) family tree has a few branches on it. There's an off-season task!

1 degree of seperation? Both Jock Mchale and Great Uncle Jack Shorten amongst the listed best players in the 1910 grannie- only premiership over Carlton.

@David looks like the data didn't come across during the upgrade.
I was wondering if Fagan also had links to McHale?

Yeah, I've lost a lot of posts sadly – maybe most. :(

I did end up finding a link with Fagan, from memory, by going through his Tasmanian Football League career. Not sure I saved a copy of this anywhere though unfortunately.

Fagan's link to McHale:

Fagan was coached by Paul Sproule when he played for Tasmanian club, Sandy Bay.

Sproule was coached by Tom Hafey when he played for Richmond in the early to mid-70s.

Hafey was coached by Alby Pannam when he played for Richmond in the mid-50s.

Pannam was coached by Jock McHale when he played for Collingwood in the 30s and 40s.

The saddest part of the upgrade, and well the only sad part. There's many lost posts and lost gems now. But such is life.

Every premiership coach since 1964 has a link to McHale in some shape or form. I haven't gone further back than that on my research.
