Providing we finish on top of Hawks next year, we end up with 3 picks moved up say 6 to 25 spots (4th to 3rd round).

Sometimes we miss out on the best we want by a pick, and have to dig deeper in our wanted list. Often not much left with the later picks.

One day we may talk about this trade as the luckiest ever..

I'm really sad to see Jack move on, I loved watching him play in the black and white. An exciting player for sure.

I agree with a lot of the posters comments here.
Saddened by the news that he has actually been traded and no longer a rumour.
He is after all a Collingwood Premiership player which leads me to more sadness when I recall some of the much more talented Collingwood greats who never won the Holy Grail for Collingwood. Like, for example, Peter Moore and Nathan Buckley. At least Darcy's Dad handed the Cup over to his son on GF day.
Maybe one day we'll forgive and forget but for now Goobye Jack Ginnivan and Good Luck.

Traitors and turn coats dont sit well with me, I wanted him to stay, now he has broken many little kids magpies hearts, including my two Nephews, No. 33 on their jumpers, got his autograph for them at York Hotel. Not that I want to compel people to only rant based on facts - but the AFL trade thread is reporting that he didn't request the trade. Speicifically:

"As of this morning he has agreed to be traded to Hawthorn. Both teams met last night to hash out the deal. Both clubs agreed to swap future second round picks as the basis of the deal. Ginnivan hadn't requested a trade, but has now agreed to be traded."

Like everything about the AFL (including everything Collinmgwood ever does or says) that report may be tripe but it does seem that Collingwood showed him the door.

Word on the street is, he met the Hawks earlier this week, he wanted out, lets face facts. I fear we have just made our bogey team, whom we have not beaten since Jesus wore sandals, even stronger, and they may well meet us in Finals next seaon, beat BOTH grand finalists, this season too.

Don't borrow trouble mate.
They finished where they finished for very good reason.
Middle of the pack.
They will need to improve drastically to threaten next year and Ginni won't bridge that gap.

Ginni via his manager may have met the Hawks once the Schulz trade went through, like Tay no problem with assessing your options.

Better to know whats out there than being trading without your input like what happens in some overseas sports.

Have said previously, clubs and player managers are working behind the scenes throughout the year, off the record approaches are made on both sides all the time.

Ginni had one year to go on his contract.
If Hawks reportedly offering 3-4 years and more game time, why not consider it? He will probably get more free kicks at the Hawks.

Sad to see both he and Tay go, but have to keep on moving forward.

Collingwood farewells Ginnivan

Collingwood has today farewelled Jack Ginnivan in a trade with Hawthorn.

The Club receives pick 33 in the upcoming 2023 AFL National Draft, and a future second and third selection, in exchange for Ginnivan who arrives at Hawthorn. Hawthorn also receives pick 39 in this year’s draft, and a future second and future fourth selection.

Ginnivan was drafted to Collingwood at pick 13 in the 2020 AFL National Rookie Draft and went on to play 42 games and boot 58 goals since his debut in Round 19 against Port Adelaide in 2021.

This year Ginnivan was a part of the Club’s Premiership-winning side after appearing in 14 rounds of the season.

Collingwood GM of Football Graham Wright thanked Ginnivan for his contribution to Collingwood.

“We appreciate and accept Jack’s decision to seek further opportunity at Hawthorn,” Wright said.

“Jack’s contribution over the last three years has been significant and includes being a member of the 2023 Premiership team, which he’ll always be a part of.

“Jack is still only 20-years-old and has a lot of football ahead of him.

“On behalf of everyone at Collingwood we wish him well in all his future endeavours.”

Can understand the business side of things from his perspective... longer term deal, securing a deal now in case his form drops off in the future.

Still feels like a giant waste that he doesn't want to stay and build towards a dynasty.
