I haven't watched a sufficient body of VFL games to really add much value to who should stay and who should go. But FWIW, and what I've seen of Begg, Murley and Draper, I'd like to see what another pre-season under their respective belts might bring and extend rookie contracts.
If we release 4 spots of those whose contracts expire in 2023, that enables us to pull in a draftee (pick 19 or better) + use our remaining picks to promote Carmichael and Johnson off the rookie* list, then rookie list Begg, Murley and Draper.
Last year Clubs had to select a minimum of three players at the NAB AFL Draft. The three live picks can include promoted rookies (before or after the national draft), national draft picks and pre-season draft selections.
With the AFL CBA set to inject $2.2 billion over five years from 2023 the average AFL player’s wage in 2022 was $400k per year, this will jump to $600k.
TPP Limit
2017 $12,445,028
2018 $12,594,368
2019 $12,758,095
2020 $13,013,257
2021 $13,273,522
2022 $13,538,993
*Each club is allowed to maintain a list of up to six eligible Category A rookies and three Category B rookies outside of their 38-man primary or senior list.
Up to three rookies can be retained, with the player's permission for a second or third season, with the others having to be either delisted or elevated to the primary list at the time of the National Draft. Only half of the salary paid by a club to players on the rookie list counts towards the league's salary cap.

I just saw this - really good news. He adds a lot to our attacking style and seems to be more than capable one on one.90 nice wrote:Marcov signed up again for 2024 great news.
Love Marcov and could be a real upgrade we need across half back and on the wings.
Plus always seems positive and has a smile in his face. I remember when Maynard duffed a kick early in the year (which cost us a goal) he basically was laughing at Maynard. Reminded me of grade footy when I would crack up when someone really stuffed up something (including me!)
I think therefore I think - I think
Who stays-who goes-who joins us
Goldstein was talked about tho Essendon could be linked to Todd
On a website Scott Lyset was mentioned as a new incoming
Friday I think kicks trade activities off

Outs:
* Ruscoe: not wanted if they're chasing Doedee
* W Kelly: unfortunately got body right this year but couldn't dominate VFL
* Bianco: likely B&F winner Friday night for VFL but too vanilla for Seniors
* T Wilson: Category B experiment is over
* Murley: Rookie listed after one year and didn't do enough in VFL 2023
Borderline:
* Draper: missed most of season one and may receive Rookie list reprieve at best case scenario
Safe:
* Begg: likely to get rookie list extension to 3rd year with likely rule change
* Carmichael: has been reported a deal has been offered & accepted
* Kreuger: missed his 3rd year trigger but offered extension
Curve Ball variable:
* Could a Steele, Jezza or Steele retire at Copeland Friday night despite all being contracted? Hope not.
Consideration:
Remember we only have 4 National Draft picks, namely:
Picks 18, 36, 75 & 76 with the first two pushed out due to compensation & Academy picks but expect our latter two picks to come into the mid 50's due to many clubs passing after the third round.
Think we shall only take 3 picks at most due to list spots being in short supply. Also we are playing with one over due to Markov coming in to replace Dean on Long Term injury list.

North Melbourne free agent Todd Goldstein has decided to move to Essendon.
Goldstein informed North Melbourne and Essendon on Monday afternoon, according to a source with knowledge of the decision.
Goldstein had a medical at Collingwood last Wednesday and, out of courtesy to Collingwood with the grand final on the weekend, had waited until Monday to inform clubs of his decision.
