I don't see how Maynard doesn't get off eventually if his first action of jumping to try and smother the ball is considered reasonable in the circumstances.

From the moment his feet leave the ground to the point of impact would be about 1 sec and while in mid air he was left with 2 options.

The first option was to protect himself from the impending impact he suddenly faced by rotating his body. This option as a consequence would unfortunately carry a heightened risk for Brayshaw.

The second option was to not protect himself, hit Brayshaw front on, risk greater injury to himself while still posing a major threat to Brayshaw.

I don't think it's unreasonable suggest the vast majority of players would take option 1 in the split second they had to make that call.
He's mad. He's bad. He's MaynHARD!

Collingwood star Brayden Maynard has been sent straight to the tribunal by the MRO and AFL, meaning his finals could be over for a collision with Angus Brayshaw that concussed the Demon, while Melbourne’s Jacob van Royen has copped a one-match suspension.

Yet if that happened, Pickett wouldn’t be missing a grand final

If this didn’t go to the tribunal there would have been huge outrage. This was the only possible decision. Now it’s up to the club to fight it all the way and hopefully we get the sensible outcome. It woulda been nicer to get there the easy way but this way will see that the whole incident has been thoroughly analysed and debated and ultimately justified as an unfortunate football accident that happens in contact sport.

The league confirmed in a statement Maynard was co-charged by both MRO Michael Christian and new AFL executive general manager Laura Kane, who was believed to have intervened in the process in an uncommon move, with the incident graded as careless conduct, severe impact and high contact.

If upheld, the sentence carries a minimum three-match suspension, meaning the Pies vice-captain would miss his side’s preliminary final in a fortnight’s time and a potential grand final in a possible huge blow to Craig McRae’s side.

Collingwood will defend Brayden Maynard to the ends of the earth including an appeal. He has been referred directly to the tribunal for his clash with Brayshaw that would end his season if upfield. Careless severe rough conduct. Van Rooyen handed a one week ban.

Unprecedented intervention from Laura Kane[/], who has jointly charged Maynard alongside MRO boss Michael Christian. The inescapable conclusion is that he was reluctant to charge Maynard and Kane stepped in to take it to the tribunal after 11 days in the job.

Unfortunately the actual facts and history support this narrative Piesnchess. It shouldn’t be the case in a supposedly professional sport but sadly it is and it’s foolish to deny or disregard it. We need to beat the monster.

If that is the case, why did Van Rooyen get suspended? Using you guys' logic, surely he would have exonerated of all blame? Just sayin'...

Well, it's following Barrett's prediction so far...

Barrett (1/2 day ago):

'IF ...

Bruz is suspended for that hit on Brayshaw ...

THEN ...

the game's rules will need re-writing before the 2024 season. This is my take, and I realise there are polar others. Bruz jumped to smother a kick, and that was his sole intent. I'd love for the "independent" MRO to clear Bruz. But history says it will take the soft option and let other "independent" bodies determine his fate. And history says the "independent" Tribunal will agree with the MRO. Then we'll be off to the "independent" Appeals Board, which history also suggests will clear him. This sport is promoted as controlled-brutal. Accidents happen in controlled-brutal. Here's my outlook on the next six days: Bruz will go through the "system", and be given a one-match ban, allowing him to play in a Grand Final.'

Good to see that our independent man on the MRP said ‘nothing to see here’. Well done Chrisso, a good Collingwood man.

I have never intimated that it happens 100% of the time. Rarely does anything happen all the time. But the point is that the underhand stuff shouldn’t happen at all and the reality is that it will never stop happening

If the Pies win the flag without Brayden Maynard, no one will forget Laura Kane AFL who directly intervened to send this to the Tribunal.

If the Pies don't win the flag without Brayden Maynard no one will ever forget Laura Kane's direct intervention on this matter.

Why have an MRO if the AFL can override/intervene anyways... Christian must be considering handing the keys to his office back...
Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away...
