Maynard incident > Maynard rule > Brayshaw retirement

Post by David »

I expect we’ll be hearing a lot about the Maynard incident with Brayshaw over the coming days, and it seems genuinely unclear to me how it’ll shake out.

Obviously all or most of us think that he should have no case to answer, and hopefully that’ll be how the MRP see it. But if not, needless to say we’ll be spending much of the next fortnight exhausting the appeals process until we get the right result.

Which way do you see this going?

Think he gets a week. It's a "football act" of trying to smother the ball, but the last part where he turns his body and shoulder will be heavily scrutinised.

Whatever the decision is, it will be polarising no matter what.

There are two potential incidents involving Cox they may look at too. An accidental elbow to some generic Melbourne gronk's head and that slide tackle he did.

I think it’s nothing or 3 weeks /
Either he’s responsible and knocked him out and it’s 3 weeks or it’s an accident and he gets nothing. You missed the option for 4 weeks, appeal, 8 weeks, appeal, delayed court challenge, Maynard plays in a fortnight, off on a technicality and Maynard wins the Brownlow … :p

I suspect the MRO will send this through to the tribunal based on the outcome.

It's funny that if Maynard has dislocated Brayshaw's shoulder, or brokwn hisn arm, they'd all be saying that this was just bad luck - like the Howe's incident.

But given it was a concussion and the AFL's overreaction to that, who knows

Van Rooyens hit on McStay was worse and he didn't even get a free kick!

Maynard will get 3 weeks, I ope he gets off but I just can't see it happening.

Any other player on any other team = nothing
A COLL player = 6wks

We always seem to have bad luck when it comes to player suspensions & finals.

He didn't slide in, he was bending over to pick up the ball when Track tried to kick it off the ground. It should have been kicking in danger.

The hit on the feral redhead was him standing still and the redhead having no awareness running into him.

There was no 'turning of the shoulder'
he brought his hands/arms forward to lessen the impact on himself and brayshaw

This. Have they even watched it?

No fuggin way he should get suspended for this, BUT this is the MRO and AFL and I have no fuggin idea which side of the bed they’ll get up from this morning. Because Bratshaw will miss a game from concussion protocols, im worried the MRO will make a statement.

None of the above. Christian will send him straight to the tribunal. They'll give him 3 weeks. We will appeal and eventually win the right for him to play.

Mark my words the AFL tried to stitch us up with the umpiring last night, they are not going to let this one go.

This was an accident and there should be no case to answer but the AFL will play it safe and call it 'careless and high impact' and give him weeks. Then an overpaid lawyer will get him off via the appeal process.
Side by side.
