Mason clunking marks
Great to see Mason clunking marks. Who do we credit for working one on one with him for what used to be his major weakness? Part of it is literally being able to see the ball now thanks to the goggles. But he’s improved his body positioning, leading, and stickier hands, and it speaks of specific training to address this the past couple of years.

The one part of Mason's marking that needs some work is winning possession of the ball in big marking pack situations when the ball is kicked out from full back and we are relying on him to maintain possession. He is often not out-marking the opposition, nor bringing the ball down to our advantage, which is leading to important turnovers and drive back into their forward line for our opposition in those situations. He doesn't have to be perfect at that though, just improve his marking frequency and work out how to try to place the ball down to our crumbers's advantage in those situations.
We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare. Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this is not true.
Big Mason's eye's being fixed and the googles to help his vision and confidence, Fly's confidence in him, getting the opportunity to ruck around the ground and his extra experience is leading to his improved marking power.
I think he is only going to continue to get better as his body appears to be in pretty good shape and the use of his googles seems to have improved his confidence. I hope we are still yet to see the best of Mason Cox.
I like the idea of him seeing out the games as the big blokes don't get any shorter during the game but the smaller guys get tired of jumping the longer the game goes. That said, I have been really impressed by the leap that Cox gets if he gets an unimpaired run at the contest. Also a couple of times already this season the opposition focus on Cox in the marking contest has allowed others such as Johnson, McStay and Elliott to come over the top of the pack to mark in front of goal. Keep up the good work Mason Cox!! USA! USA!

At least he finally kicked truly against Freo, after kicking like 6 or 7 behinds in a row. Our ten goal second quarter was with him playing first ruck and we looked more dangerous when he was in the middle not the forward line- so we might have a Gawn/Grundy situation (both better suited as first ruck, not natural forward and back up ruck) ourselves with Cameron/Cox although our combo compliment each other better than the dreamons pair. Frampton was poor and only got 3 possessions but he was recruited to play defensive role on Dixon gorilla types so in Fly we trust with big-man selections.

1st part is strength. He's had a few years now to work in the Gym and build up strength.Mr Miyagi wrote:Yeah but not just that. His body work and positioning are just so much better. Might also be the delivery he’s getting when he’s FF!
2nd part is practice, learning how to use the strength effectively.
Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

The other thing I have been critical of in the past is that we didn’t have good crumbers around him when the ball hit the ground after a mark was spilled but with N/J Daicos, JDG, Pendles, Adams, Mich, Crisp etc all there to clean up, we are a potent side to match up against in the midfield.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm
