No. But we gotta nail the pick next year.

This guy ranked the ladder at the end of next year

We came 6th, Carlton is 5th

Re: Trading Pick 30 to the Blues

inxs88 wrote:This trade while in some respects logical that we wanted to get a second round pick back for the 2023 Draft, did seem on the surface though "unders". When you defer a pick and instant gratification of a player that would otherwise be drafted and playing next year until essentially 2024, normally the trading club asks for an extra sweetener.

If Carlton finish 5th and above next year which is more than probable, we are essentially giving pick 30 (2022) for pick 31-35 (in 2023) with no added kicker. Yes, the 2023 depth of players in said draft may be better but it's another case where I think we got rolled and should have asked for a 3rd round pick from the Blues in 2023.

Thoughts?
I consider it the right decision at the time. That pick now gives us far more flexibility during the next trade and draft period. Given how nearly all trades are done with picks as currency, we would be badly handicapped in the next off season if all we had to work with was our first and fourth round picks. If the club likes a player who they believe will still be there as a late second rounder ( ? ) then we simply keep it. If not, we can trade it. You can’t have that flexibility if you don’t have the pick in the first place.
We were never going to invest heavily in the 2022 draft anyway because our list profile was young enough, so why not bank a second rounder for a rainy day. No brainer !

The club gambled on Joe Richards still being available at pick 48(?). They only planned to use one more pick so rather than using pick 27 and having pick 48 go to waste. They used 48 and turned 27 into a future second.

Almost doesn't matter what number it ends up being, it's a bonus.

Three lads from the Apple Isle who trained with us over the Summer are having good seasons.
Collingwood: Colby McKercher, Jack Callinan, Ryley Sanders.

Unsure if we have any formal ties, maybe Wrighty thinks they'll offer good draft / transfer currency to bank come 2028...

THE TASMANIA Devils laid claim to four draftees last year, and look set to produce a few more in 2023. Among the top prospects from the Apple Isle are AFL Academy members Jack Callinan and Colby McKercher, two speedy customers who will look to build on promising bottom-age campaigns and take the next step this season.
Colby McKercher is the new breakaway leader of this year’s Rookie Me Central Medal, after six rounds of Coates Talent League action.
Though McKercher’s Devils have played more games than any full-time region (five), the midfielder has been judged best afield in all four of his own appearances to lead the count on 20 votes.

TASMANIAN midfielder Ryley Sanders dined out in Round 1 of the new Coates Talent League season, notching up a game-high 28 disposals as the Sandringham Dragons downed Eastern by 14 points. The 18-year-old has made a name for himself as an on-ball specialist, renowned for his clean distributive work and knack for finding the pill.

There is no spot CURRENTLY available for Collingwood to participate in the MSRD. There are currently only eight clubs eligible to participate but that number will ramp up as the date gets closer.

That's my understanding as well. I believe Charlie Dean was placed on our inactive list in order to make way for Markov's arrival, therefore taking our last list spot.

Could it be?
Not likely, I think. But you never know...

Former Sydney ruckman Sam Naismith may soon earn himself an AFL lifeline following reports that the 30-year-old is currently in Collingwood's sights ahead of the mid-season draft.

If we had a spot (and we don’t) I’d be tempted given we really only have Cameron and potentially Cox. Maybe with Frampton showing plenty we could consider we have 3 rucks which would decrease the likelihood of us having no ruck in the second half of the season or more importantly come finals.

It just seems like we’re pretty flush with depth everywhere else on the field.

But as I said - we don’t have a spot and don’t think (and indeed hope) we’ll be creating one
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

^^^

As per the fine print in the last paragraph of the above article, it couldn’t happen unless we had a season ending injury ( or retirement ) bob up before the end of May. If Naismith was to nominate, it’s not likely he gets through to Collingwood anyway. In terms of draft order, we are currently the last club to have a selection in the first round. Add to that, we currently don’t need him, so I don’t see it happening.
EDIT - Piffdog just got in before me

I can’t quite remember if he was a very good player or not. How do Nicksters rate his ability and value to the team?
