We were desperate for a back up ruck and no-one else was available. He had apparently built up his fitness over a few weeks training, so under the circumstances I don't think we really had any other choice but to play him. Now he is injured again, we are back to being almost totally reliant on Frampton. Hopefully, he can keep competing in the ruck for another week or 2 until Cox is able to resume his place in the side.Take_a_Screamer wrote:I was saying (strongly) at the time, he should first build up match fitness in the VFL.90 nice wrote:I noticed Kruger was on the bike on the sidelines afterwards i think we rushed him back too early.
I'm not impressed with his lack of management.

Yep - prior to his return the coach said his GPS was off the charts. There’s no substitute for playing time but as others have flagged we were desperate for some height and there was nobody else available. As others get back on the park I think he will find himself in the twos for an extended period anyway.
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...

Injury update : Round 8
Scott Pendlebury, who injured his eye late the side’s Round 6 match against Essendon, had a follow up with an eye specialist and received some stitches to assist with his recovery. Pendlebury has responded well to the surgery. The 35-year-old is expected to return to full contact training late in the week ahead of Sunday's game. Pendlebury will be assessed with the expectation to play this weekend.
Nathan Murphy suffered an impact to the face during Sunday night’s game against Adelaide. Avoided serious injury and was left with a bruise. Murphy was cleared of concussion symptoms at the time of the incident. The 23-year-old has been symptom free since the impact. Similar to Pendlebury, Murphy will be assessed later in the week to determine whether he will play against the Swans.
Nathan Kreuger was subbed off in the first half against the Crows on the weekend. Kreuger sustained a knock to the knee, then further received a direct knock to the ribs. Kreuger was removed from the game as a precaution and sent to hospital for scans which cleared him of any damage. Kreuger will be assessed later in the week.
In good news, Mason Cox has progressed back to his base line measures, impressively returning back to where he was five weeks ago. Mason requires one more consultation with the specialist to clear him for contact training which will enable him to be available for selection this week.
Young defender Jakob Ryan's neck/shoulder injury is progressing well. Ryan who was able to train in Adelaide, worked through a training session with little to no pain. He will be limited in training early in the week, with the aim to have him back to full contact training by the end of the week and available for selection.
Pleasingly, Aiden Begg (back) and Arlo Draper (concussion) have returned to full training and are ready to go for this weekend's games.
Joe Richards is progressing well with his running program as he works on his fitness from his hamstring injury.
Ruckman Darcy Cameron is tracking well as he recovers from an MCL injury. Cameron has been out of a knee brace for a week now, and has settled nicely into his running program.
Patrick Lipinski (shoulder), Dan McStay (finger) and Jeremy Howe (arm) are all progressing well in their running programs with no major updates at the moment.
Similarly, Charlie Dean is working on an indoor program before he returns to running.

Injury Update: Round 9
Head of High Performance, Jarrod Wade has confirmed a reasonably clean bill of health after the weekend's matches at both AFL and VFL level.
Dynamic forward Nathan Kreuger, who sustained rib soreness in Round 7, will increase his contact training throughout the week with the expectation he will be available to play this weekend. Kreuger will be assessed in the back end of the week ahead of team selection.
Joe Richards is back running, and his training load will be increased this week as he looks to reach 100% running capacity. He is expected to be available for selection next week.
The road to recovery is almost over for Darcy Cameron as he looks to make his return from an MCL injury. Cameron completed a strong training block last week of high-level functional gym work. This week is about putting this work into an on-field environment which should set him up to be available for Round 10.
After injurying his shoulder in the final practice match of the pre-season, dashing midfielder Patrick Lipinski has cleared all his strength markers and has commenced contact work. Next week Lipinski will be 12-weeks post-surgery and the focus will be on completing full training before being available for selection.
Dan McStay is in a frustrating position, being able to function in every sense but is still unable to mark the ball. McStay continues to use this time to work on his speed and agility before he is cleared to start more skills-focussed training with the ball.
The positive news continues to arrive for Jeremy Howe. Howe is taking steps every day and is even getting involved in some goal kicking and light skills training. He's working with a hand specialist while completing his running program. It is expected Howe will return to contract training sooner than anticipated but a time frame on when he will return to the game is unconfirmed.
Young defender Charlie Dean has been cleared by his surgeon to commence running. Dean will need to complete functional markers in the gym before he begins a running program, but this is positive news for Dean who has had an unfortunate run of injuries since arriving at Collingwood during the 2021 Rookie Draft.
