Just to clarify, we now go to the 2023 draft with our own first round pick, Carlton’s second round pick and our own fourth round pick. We have no third round selection to all on.
It was a good move to buy back into the second round of the 2023 draft and the benefits have probably been diluted amongst the players who were selected by the club. Well done by all involved in the night.

Another good reason to actively barrack against Carlton next year ... if anyone in here needed one.Pies2016 wrote:Just to clarify, we now go to the 2023 draft with our own first round pick, Carlton’s second round pick and our own fourth round pick. We have no third round selection to all on.

Looking over the Draft / Trade periods over the past decade. Of the 99 players we have drafted / traded in, 39 remain. (unsure how that compares to other Clubs).

Does the 3 pick minimum rule still exist? I noticed GC only made one selection this year and I think the Tigers only made 2Pies2016 wrote:
Tend to agree. While it would be nice to have a stronger hand in the 2023 draft, if we were to trade out of this year, we would then be left with having to still draft in three players as a min with pick 16 > a third rounder ( #< 51 ) and a fourth rounder in a speculative draft. Point being, youve got to give something up to get something back.
It might be better to see how the possible draft order for 2023 looks in 12 months time and then for the club to strategise how best to obtain those picks when that time comes around.

Of all the reasons to barrack against Carlton, getting a slightly higher draft pick is quite low on the list actually... scum...prawnstar wrote:Another good reason to actively barrack against Carlton next year ... if anyone in here needed one.Pies2016 wrote:Just to clarify, we now go to the 2023 draft with our own first round pick, Carlton’s second round pick and our own fourth round pick. Trading Pick 30 to the Blues
This trade while in some respects logical that we wanted to get a second round pick back for the 2023 Draft, did seem on the surface though "unders". When you defer a pick and instant gratification of a player that would otherwise be drafted and playing next year until essentially 2024, normally the trading club asks for an extra sweetener.
If Carlton finish 5th and above next year which is more than probable, we are essentially giving pick 30 (2022) for pick 31-35 (in 2023) with no added kicker. Yes, the 2023 depth of players in said draft may be better but it's another case where I think we got rolled and should have asked for a 3rd round pick from the Blues in 2023.
Thoughts?

I love the Pies, hate Carlscum
None of us are privy to what may have been sought or offered in the dealings with other clubs. I'm sure we got the best deal available. Remember, we were very keen to get a 2nd round pick next year, which leads me to think we've got a player in mind, or else we are planning on bundling some picks together to get a much earlier pick. Only time will tell if our strategy works out, but I've got confidence in our recruiting team's ability to maximise the benefits to our club.
