To what extent does the blame get laid fairly at Hines' door? Presumably, he has had to cut his suit to fit the cloth.

The Collingwood game plan for a decade was to play one "permanent" key position forward and a second who had to be the relieving ruck. It's hard to know where to look for a 6'7" bloke who could potentally kick more than 30 goals a season as a deep forward marking target and ruck, especially when the guiding rule is that you have to find that bloke among players who are rookies, recycled from other clubs or very late draft picks. We've got two of them. How many more do we think are actually out there to "compete" for that spot? Hines' difficulty was the previous football administration had a vision that involved identifying - and recruiting with a low value selection - a unicorn who could perform ruck duties and, at the same time, dominate as a KPF. Let's be realistic, Wayne Carey and Royce Hart could not have played that role. We know of at least three premiership power forwards who couldn't play that role (Dawes, Q Lynch and Travis Cloke) for our own team.

It wasn't recruiting that was the problem - it was that the guy Hines was supposed to recruit doesn't exist.

Dunstall mocking Cox’s glasses last night

Post by Mr Miyagi »

Too bad no one is in charge of the AFL right now to give the gorilla a whack for being a complete twit. Talk about Cox’s form, but leave the eyesight out of it unless you’re being objective about the glasses and stadium lights having an effect.

Agree - hammer him about his poor form. No more excuses. We can't excuse his inabilities due to eyesight problems anymore.

He literally put Easter eggs to his eyes and mocked Cox’s eyesight. The fat slug deserves a boot up his chonky ass. And Fox Footy has the nerve to call Pigstall an expert. Criticise Cox’s poor form and inability to stick marks, but what Dunstall did is offensive.

Well, if you didn't know, you could have been mistaken for thinking Cox was playing while legally blind. Am surprised he didn't have a white cane or a guide dog.

^ Yes. I do not condone Dunstall - whose commentary in every game (Collingwood or otherwise) is disgracefully shallow and incompetent - but the core truth about all of this is that if Cox had taken 4 contested marks, kicked 5 goals, had 20 hitouts and hammered defenders with 5 inside-50 tackles, the opportunity to mock his eye-wear (low and all as that was) wouldn't have arisen.

I disagree. That’s like saying Jada isn’t allowed to have feelings about her hair loss cos she’s in an open marriage.

I reckon that game is his last at AFL level unless covid decimates the team. He was pretty awful. Since he’s had to wear the goggles, he’s just so uncoordinated. Dunstall is a typical AFL buffoon, they aintbrain surgeons!

Geezus Yes Yes Yes Yes and Yessss. Ive put it in the post game thread that Cox was being slaughtered on Fox Footy.

Can anyone think of any other AFL player that gets chastised, bullied and/or abused by a professional commentator or media person???

Im not talking about us supporters who have been patient but realised hes not up to it and have been critics of him. We are allowed to do this within reason.

However when a media personality comes out and openly mocks a player like that, that person needs to be severely punished with a fine or be stood down.

Its obvious Cox isnt up to it but having to be mocked like that is a different story.

This not about Cox this is about Dunstall!!!

I really hope the club say something, it’s just not on. As someone on Twitter said, what if it was about one of the many players in a helmut?

How would Dunstall feel if we put an ice cream container on our heads and mocked his fractured skull?

That's an interesting hypothetical. Caleb Daniel came to my mind when I first saw what Dunstall had done. I can only guess that Daniel does not get mocked for being 6 inches high or wearing a stupid helmet because he is a good, effective footballer. I do not think it is OK for Cox to be mocked in that way but his appalling game last night did invite unwanted attention. That doesn't mean any of what was done was OK - but it is a signal to Cox that his career has descended into farce.
