He was our first live pick in that draft and another wasted one.Another black mark on Hine’s resume.Do you ever wonder why so many of the players we draft have behavioural issues, yet the players we recruit from other clubs are no trouble at all.The players Hiine picks are always the biggest trouble makers. As I said,he’s a very poor judge of character.MJ23 wrote:Sier a pick 35...Character issues......Really ???doriswilgus wrote:What about the character issues though?Three of his top draft picks,DeGoey,Stephenson, and Sier as well, have all failed the character test.None of them had the character, the drive,or the dedication to make it as A.F.L players. That’s a searing indictment on Hine’s judgment as a recruiter.MJ23 wrote: Yep, surely he's asking potential draftee's if they intend on getting injured or not !!!

One of the most calm and sensible replies on the vexed topic that is JDG!Pies2016 wrote:
I can promise you, these kids, their friends and family are profiled to within inch short of breaching privacy laws. Collingwood does it as extensively as any other club. Hines job is to identify the best 17 year old talents in the country and that’s exactly what he did in identifying those two. How many red flags do you expect to find with seventeen year olds who can’t yet legally drive or get into the clubs. It’s also extremely difficult to profile a 17 year old as having issues with alcohol. And you can’t profile kids as to how they will or won’t handle the fame that comes with being an easily recognised sports personality three years on.

I wonder how Hine feels, seeing yet another of his first round picks blow up in his face?Let’s look at his score card over the last 7 or 8 years
Scharanberg ( injuries,no return on investment)
Freeman ( injuries,ditto)
Stephenson ( no character,no return on investment)
Degoey( bad character,no return on investment)
Honestly what does this man ask these people when he interviews them before the draft? He seems like a bad judge of talent to me and an even worse judge of character.
Enough is enough. He’s done enough damage to this club already. It’s time to move him along with his latest failed draft pick.
The selections were hardly the problem because both Stephenson and DeGoey are elite talents when they are switched on and focussed.
In DeGoeys case, the club has brought this on themselves. He is a serial offender but the clubs previous long time decision makers were happy to enable him rather than show him either the door or some serious tough love.
Ask yourself the same standard question. Would the successful clubs have hung onto him as long as we have ? DeGoeys biggest problem is his future now lies in hands of McRae and Wright and co and that’s a very different collective to the ones who oversaw his previous indiscretions.
You can’t blame Hine . Who doesn’t put a shiny face on in Interviews?
How can you tell who’s brain will flick to dickhead mode when the dollars and adulation starts rolling in?
Scharenberg I agree with, he was always too big a risk taken so high. It’s not like we are the lucky club!

It will blow over by Christmas and be forgotten by Pre season. Of course the AFL world wants us to get rid of him. That would be a tremendous loss for Collingwood. We have a beast in our ranks and he needs to be protected not have the village come for him with 2 X 4s on fire.Pies4shaw wrote:That would be extraordinarily surprising, in all the circumstances.MurderousMagpie wrote:JDG will be banging goals for the Pies next season

Know of an incident years back. Gay guy had a peek at someones old fellow in the toilets and then ended up being put thru the wall. Both lost their jobs. Happened at ANZ call centre near Waverley.ANNODAM wrote:Straight guys definitely understand consent when a gay guy tries to touch them…

Whats disappointing is that the club has turned a new page, we've got a positive feeling, all these great moved around the club, we've been out of the headlines... and then this.
You look at the club this time last year. We'd had one of the greatest wins I can remember (In Perth Vs WCE), then were smashed by ten goals in the Semi. Then the whole Treloar thing, added to Stevo and Phillips. And then the season took place and we end up second last. It was a dreadful season. The coach and everyone around him gone. President and other board members gone. Replacement President gone. Playing list looking really different.
JDG gets special permission to go and train in the US. From all reports he is smashing it. He's in great shape and has, himself, turned a new leaf. Everything was going great. Then this. Fine, go out and have a good time and all. But geez man is it that hard to keep some self control and stay out of trouble?
It'll be interesting to see what happens here, but the draft cant come quick enough for me.
