I've thought of this thread a few times in the last couple of days.

Ross Lyon got embarrassed when he came out and said he wouldn't coach Collingwood, only to be called out in the following days for lying. He was all about Carlton.

Then the confirmation that he'd been having meetings with the Carlton boss prior to those comments, leading many to believe he had the job and he knew it.

Carlton come out and say "we want to make finals in 2022" and "we want an experienced coach".

Fast forward a few more days, and Lyon then embarrasses Carlton by refusing to go through an interview process and pulls out of the race. Did he think he had the job already? Did he believe going through a series of interviews was below him? There's still a faint hope that Clarko will coach them, but at this stage he's said no. I wonder if they'd make him go through "the process"?

There's also been some awkwardness with a section of the Carlton board against Lyon is he was to be interviewed, citing a confidential settlement reached with a former junior staffer who alleged she was harassed by Lyon whilst he was at Freo. They believe this to be in contradiction with the "Carlton Respects" program, which centres around gender equality.

Then they say they've spoken to Nathan Buckley but then Buckley's camp has said no.

"We want an experienced coach".... well lets see who is left?

Brad Scott. Michael Voss. Don Pyke. Robert Harvey. Paul Roos. Mark Williams. Thats really it, unless a coach, like Chris Scott, who's at another club comes in.

Voss has already lost out on the Carlton job before. Will he apply again? I think Brad Scott will be their number 1 target now, but will he go for it or take up the job at the AFL?

There's nothing wrong with going for an untried coach, but someone that has been an assistant and done what they need to do to take the next step. Kingsley would be the obvious choice here. Which is a little bit awkward, because he narrowly lost the Pies job, meaning he's been passed on already, but also that it opens up a rivalry of who made the right decision.

Graham, Yze, Caracella, Burns and Bruce would be the next likely candidates from those without senior experience.

Anyway, Carlton have really been embarrassed and they have dont most of it themselves with a little help from Ross Lyon.

I hope they dont go for Kingsley. But would love to hear more about other coaches saying no thanks.

I've read the statement incorrectly. I've gone back and fixed it now. She doesn't work at Carlton, but some on the board thought his appointment would be against their policies on equal opportunity and female rights.
