I think him in the best 22. The team is struggling either individually or collectively but I don't think Cox is the problem.

Pie-supporting journo Gleeson:

"Collingwood’s forward line has been spluttering for a year and it has not been made more functional by the return of Mason Cox, who has barely played a good game since the best of his career in the 2018 prelim final.

Cox as a target for the club’s problems is as obvious, as he is a target on the field given his size, but he alone should not overshadow the Pies’ worrying issues.

The club had brought Darcy Cameron in for two games before switching him out for Cox. Cameron didn’t do enough as a forward. Cox has done less."

Coxy is trying to perfect the one armed pack mark. This is a high degree of difficulty manoeuvre; it’s going to take some time.

Like when it's handballed round in circles on the wing? That was one of the worst passages of play I've seen from us in eons! The forwards would be thinking WTF???

Yes, that was like something out of a Marx brothers movie, didnt we handball bout ten times in rotation, going in a circle, and got absolutely nowhere ? I nearly burst out laughing, that was just comical, beyond belief, Bucks would have rolled  his eyes over that fiasco.

He doesnt do enough body work on his opponent before the ball gets in his area.

And his hands arnt soft enough to arm press someone with 1 arm and mark with the other (e.g cloke)

SO, yes i agree he somewhat lacks body, arm, and muscle strength, so why not put him into the Gym, under a fitness coach, and bulk him up, put some beef on him, turn him into a hulk of a man, perhaps ?

Ok, so the Coxzilla is not your wet weather amphibia-monster. Best to unleash him when the weather is dry.

Correct weight. That’s one of the reasons the select committee needs to be held to account for last weeks team. The brothers Brown at least Tyler needs to be rested.

Can Pies afford to give up on the American dream?

"He had operations on both eyes at the end of last season to repair his retinas and although he made a full recovery, some observers within the club wonder about the impact that surgery has had on his reaction time and confidence."

" A good big man, will always beat a good, little man " and, " With big blokes, the thing is, as the game goes on, they dont get any smaller, at the end of the game, when its there to be won.the big player is still BIG" - Jack Dyer.

What kind of quote is this?
I am not sure, but leaning towards the latter.
I think today, the most important point is : not who is better, big or small, but how best do you combine these two elements in your structures and tactics?

Jack Dyer loved the big man, ruckmen, big key forwards, had contempt for the smaller player, like his old mate Louie.

I lean towards it never having been true!

Leigh Matthews wasn't a big bloke.

Jake Niall reckons Casboult is much better:

"He also represents one of the AFL's major missed recruiting opportunities for rival clubs.

Consider his hypothetical impact today if he was occupying the goal square at either Collingwood or the Brisbane Lions, teams with premiership aspirations that have glaring weaknesses on the key forward front.

He's a superior player, on nearly every measure, to Mason Cox, bearing in mind that Casboult also offers a second ruck option.
...

Collingwood right now would be well-placed to hoist the COVID-stained silverware if the Pies had even a moderately reliable proper key forward; their backline, midfield, defensive/transition method and array of mid-sized forwards mean they don't need a tall A-grader in the goal square supporting Brody Mihocek..."

Casboult is an erratic hack that has been around for a long time, if we had Tom Lynch id agree with this, but Casboult is an unreliable kick for goal, just as Cloke was for us, hes not in the class of a Lynch. :?
