When will we recruit players that can kick straight??
More goals from unnecessary turnovers... and hand balling to players under pressure!!
Too many passengers again tonight, we can’t handle tackling pressure.
What’s happened to de goey? Lost all confidence and swagger.
The fight back was good to see but if you don’t kick a goal in 2 qtrs you won’t win many games...

Yes one quarter of football in the last three matches means he is suitably qualified to play football: schoolboy football I'm afraid. Callum Brown is a shell of his former (2019) self as is Phillips.Pies4shaw wrote:In the last quarter, Callum Brown had 8 disposals, a goal assist and a goal. Varcoe had two disposals for the term, one of which was a handball receive in the open for a goal that could as easily have been kicked by any of 4 players.

Agree. When teams apply pressure, we allow the game to go into a congested, slog fest by slowing down the ball movement, and flooding the oppositon F50, and thereby denuding our f50 of any structure. It is like we just go totally into ultra defence mode. It is sickening to watch. So many times Essendon were able to burst through the corridor brilliantly. Due to our defensive pressure, we could restrain them, but that's all. You can't win by simply restraining the opposition's attack.watt price tully wrote:Mostly a poor effort including the selectors.
We’ve been worked out: apply pressure & we fold. No plan B
The Brown brothers in particular deserve special mention: I’m mentioning them two-three weeks in a row. Too ineffectual.
Varcoe was much better in attack.
Elliott has been where the ball isn’t and that’s a worry. Phillips is a shell of his former self this year.
I really think that Buckley's game style has been superseded. the opposition has worked out how to force us to go into a defensive plasma, that can only withstand attack but is utterly incapable of scoring.
I am really devastated by this game. To me the issues look systemic rather than just a "bad night"

I have a friend who has been religiously following the Pies since the late 70’s.ANNODAM wrote:Let it go guys, this year’s done...
Hasn’t missed many matches in 40 years but decided to not watch tonight’s game.
He’s had enough of the utter crap that this team consistently dishes out.
The Stephenson drama last year nearly broke him....and I think this weeks Sidey stupidity has done it.
Sadly, I’m not far behind him!!!!
40+ fu**ing years to put up with a skilful team that has no spine, desire, heart and fight.
There have been many less talented Collingwood teams, but geez, none that I’ve had less faith in when the going got tough.
Give me the unfashionable 2002 side!!!!
I’ve pretty much given up hope on this team.
A premiership cannot be won without heart.
This team doesn’t have any!!!

It used to take about a quarter for Cyril Rioli to rip our backline to shreads, earlier this decade, while McAveney pulled himself crosseyed under the desk.Medieval wrote:Hawks by 10 goals next week.
Now, they don't even need him to beat us.
Any player with half an idea of how to play front and square at the base of a marking contest inside their F50 will kick a bag there, minis Howe.
Don't even bother watching next week.

I was oommenting in response to your juxtaposition of him and Varcoe. Varcoe was appalling all night and should never have played. He was cooked at the end of 2018. I do not know why we keep playing him.watt price tully wrote:Yes one quarter of football in the last three matches means he is suitably qualified to play football: schoolboy football I'm afraid. Brown has the makings of a champion centreman. I have no idea what they think they are doing playing him at half-forward, especially since we have no competent centre clearance mids apart from Pendlebury.
I think it would have but that’s not the point. 4 weeks without arguably the 3rd best player in our side and we do nothing. Nothing. Doff our cap, take it up the proverbial.think positive wrote:wouldnt have made a difference, watt price tully wrote:I agreedalyc wrote:makes the decision not to appeal the length of Sidey’s suspension look very poor.
