People ignore the James Clement rule. The ‘hands on the back’ infringement introduced the past decade helped Cox stand his ground unimpeded. They removed the rule in 2019, so defenders were allowed to simply stick their hands in his back, hold him off and nudge (shove) him under the ball. Hence, effectiveness down and stats worse. The removal of the James Clement rule has possibly ruined his upward improvement and unless he gets much stronger (not likely), he won’t be as effective as he was in some of his standout performances in 2017-18.

He can get as strong as he likes, it won't help as he has a slender frame and a high centre of gravity.
We just have to be better at kicking it to his advantage. He averages more than 2 contested marks per game, just don't sit it on his head.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

I agree. In my view, it would be a very retrograde move to lose Cox for Jenkins. As another poster mentioned, we did not see Cox at his best this year due to an unknown eye injury which would have impaired his vision. We must keep Cox. He will be the extra link of crazy talent in our foward line next year.Pies2016 wrote:I don’t get the love for Jenkins. He’s an average player in a team that includes Lynch and Walker and was dropped a couple times in 2019 as well.
I’m ok with Jenkins ( just ) if Cox and Miochek remain on our list but a list with Cox out and Jenkins in could hardly make us better.
That virtually makes Jenkins the first banana key forward ( assuming DeGoey has to spend time in the middle ) when he was just average in Adelaide as a second / third option.
Free Julian Assange!!

Only time in my life I’ve ever thought about uttering these words,
I like cox’s
But seriously, the guy is still in his nappies in terms of playing footy.
Give the guy a break, I think he’s definitely worth keeping.
Takes multiple defenders which frees up the likes of JDG, Elliot, stepho etc.
And $500k is not big coin these days when you think about what the minimum contract is worth.

Collingwood forever, forever Collingwood
If he was 3 yrs younger, I'd want to keep Cox, but he'll be 29 before the start of next season, and I honestly think we've already seen his best.
In truth, I reckon he's only ever played half a dozen really good games, and has gone missing in action far too many times.
I'd rather Jenkins, who is a genuine 40 goal a year forward, and is physically stronger.

Umm... In 2018, minimum base wage for 3rd-year plus was $105,000. For a rookie it was $75,000.Bleedblackanwhite wrote:...

How is $500,000 not big when you think about the minimum contract? It's five or six times the minimum contract.
What are your thoughts on the claim both retinas were torn, one of them a long time before being found when the other one was this year? Cox repeated this himself on TV a couple of weeks ago. How likely does this sound to you (that he wouldn't know he had a torn retina for months)?September Zeros wrote:FWIW as it’s been mentioned a couple of times -His vision would have been fine this year. It would have had zero impact on his performance.Cam wrote:... Now maybe that's the unknown retina situation, I dunno.

Average wage. Yes, that's $371,000, but $500,000 is way above that.

"It's an inaccurate report, we're not pursuing Mason Cox," list manager Adrian Dodoro said.
