I like the Matthews comparison. Someone else suggested Ricciuto. As supporters, we'd be happy if he turned out 1/2 as good as either.Mugwump wrote:^ he does indeed have potential. It was only JLT, but he reminded me a lot of Leigh Matthews, the way his brute strength burst through packs like a tank. If he keeps screwing up then he'd have to go. But you'd hope this public disgrace is the making of the kid.

You bet. He may not, of course. For every twenty that promise, perhaps one really becomes. Still, the promise is rare enough, and I certainly saw it in the first JLT.jackcass wrote:I like the Matthews comparison. Someone else suggested Ricciuto. I have been critical of Nathan Buckley last year, but I will definitely not criticize him for showing faith in his players. Trust, confidence and faith is absolutely essential as the foundation of team spirit. Cynicism and suspicion are highly corrosive and damaging for the cohesion that we need to achieve. I applaud Buckley for standing by his player. The deception reflects badly on Jordan De Goey alone. The fact that his coach was willing to support him publicly can only give confidence and solidarity to the team as a whole.

Speaking of those walking-talking shit sacks at Whorethorn, love the way Hodge is free to play in finals after being done for .05; but miss a training session and it's the end of the world; better suspend him for round one.Piesnchess wrote:Yep, delist him and then he can go to the Hawks, and help them win yet another flag, brilliant idea, just brilliant.What'sinaname wrote:De Goin......De List......De Gone

Let me know when the Millanes, Banks, Shaws of this world were ever on the same money DeGoner is now. They had to work 9-5 jobs back then, and were NEVER full time professional footballers. They only had a moral code to uphold representing the club on and off the field, not a legal one.themonk wrote:Funny how fans idolise the Millanes, Banks, Shaws, Swan & Beams type players and then crucify a 21 year old for being on the piss and lying.
I hope the club realises we have a potential gun on our hands and work with him to provide structure and direction.
Swan & Beams became better players after their brushes with the law.

We are batting about 1:8 in terms of rehabilitating blokes with any issues.
No need to reel off the list of fan favourites who have been voted off the island rather than embraced and supported.
Wonder why we have a welfare dept. at all.
Lets hope that the support program they put in place for Jordy is thorough and genuine. We, and Jordy, need a better final outcome than Marley's etc etc.

Great call Jock. In my time following the Pies I can recall the following player issues:
* Phil Carman: 2 pages worth
* Rene Kink: ultimately sacked in 1983 after 1 too many issues
* Brett Cooper: drugs issue, was jailed
* Darren Millane: hello Greyhound Buses
* Denis Banks: the co-pilot
* Terry Keays & Michael Lockman: nightclub buddies mid-week
* Gavin Crosisca: drug issues and ankle injury during 1990 finals at n/club
* Mick McGuane: 1991 disciplined and dropped for overweight and issues
* Brad Hardie: for having "red hair"
* Trent Hotton: turning up drunk at training
* Tyson Lane: commitment issues
* Heath Scotland: arrested & picked up from jail by Balmey day of a game
* Ben Johnson & Chris Tarrant: nightclub issues & not suspended
* Brodie Holland: run in with the law whilst on list
* Dane Swan: 2003 assault conviction
* H Shaw & Didak: well documented
* Didak and the gun totalling shooter over Bolte Bridge
* Richard Cole: sanctioned for off field issues
* Ryan Cook: assault charges in Pre-season 2009: never played again
* Dane Beams: post 2010 Grand Final charges...dropped by police
* Simon Buckley: arrested for "keying" his ex-girlfriend's car
* Marley: well known G.B.H conviction in W.A
* Keefe & Thomas: well documented 2 year ban
* Taylor Adams: assault charges at Geelong nightclub 2 years ago
Wonder where this stacks up against other clubs over 30 years....

I remember years ago when I was doing an AFL coaching course David Parkin was our instructor and he spent quite a bit of time telling our group about all the off field player issues that he had to put up with.
It was choco block full of tales of the drunk and weird kind.
I don't think he mentioned Jon dorovitch tho... now that was one out of the box!
One of the funniest biggest scandal of all time.
Old Jono in the car by himself with nothing else to do ...except...!

Correct! It was the first time I had ever heard of the "Prahran Night Court" and also the rather large word for us Magpie fans levelled at Dorotich being "degenerate"!thompsoc wrote:I remember years ago when I was doing an AFL coaching course David Parkin was our instructor and he spent quite a bit of time telling our group about all the off field player issues that he had to put up with.
