Boy this whole thing has been a mess.

Poorly handled by everyone involved.

Let's move on, De Goey will play 3 VFL games and hopefully be back in the seniors, where he belongs by round 7 or 8.

End of the day though he is a kid and kids do dumb things. I'm not ready to crucify him for either the incident or panicking after.

There are plenty of senior AFL players running around now that have had similar incidents or worse in their past. Most on here are super critical of the club when after one too many incidents we do move them on.

This could be the beginning of the end or the making of him.

Im keen to see which way he decides to go. Fresh in the memory is Swanny talking about the 2003 incident that presented the crossroads in his life and how certain he was that it helped shape him into the player he became.

comparison stats

2016 JDG / 2004 Swanny
20 Games 13
9.2 Kicks Per Game 8.1
9.0 Handballs Per Game 5.1
18.2 Disposals Per Game 13.2
4.0 Marks Per Game 3.8
0.8 Goals Per Game 0.2
0.7 Behinds Per Game 0.4
3.6 Tackles Per Game 1.4

Lets have our sook and then move on quickly to see how he develops from it all.....
Top post. I agree 100 % and thanks for those comparative stats. I still think/hope that Jordan will become a gun player for us. The ball's in his court now.

Anybody here thought of thinking ahead of the story, because it might not be over yet.

Were none of De Goey's Collingwood team mates with him celebrating his 21st at the bar in St. Kilda? If yes, aren't they party to the big lie too? So what sanction for them? (And if no, doesn't De Goey have any friends at the club?)

Standby for CCTV footage to appear in the media showing the punch up, and others in the group.

Very weak that the word 'lied' does not appear anywhere on the Collingwood website or in the Club statement in relation to this issue, and neither does the word pass from De Goey's lips.

Frankly amazed at Buckley's insipid media performance yesterday. Very, very poor. He needed to preface everything he said with "I've been told that he hurt his hand" etc etc.

De Goeys act of utter bastardry has unfortunately taken attention away from the main AFL story today, and that is the drug use at the Eagles which got them a flag.

De Goey needs to be made walk the perimeter of the MCG this Friday night and face the wrath he deserves from Collingwood supporters, and the ridicule from Dogs supporters. Shame the prick and he may not do something like this again.

Go soft (as the club is currently doing) and he will be a repeat offender.

And for those who cite the old Shaw/Didak issue, remember that Didak later went on nighttime joyrides with crims shooting up houses in Melbs northern suburbs. And a short time later one of these 'mates' of Didaks murdered a man in the CBD.

I couldn't disagree more. If the club is to build a trusting environment then Bucks has to let it be known that he trusts the players when they tell him something. The fact that Bucks took Jordy at his word is what makes the embarrassment for De Goey even greater. Bucks has been first class as usual.

He's not "a kid". He's a grown man three years past the age of full responsibility.

I've got no problem with De Goey out celebrating his 21st having a good time with his mates, but really to lie about how he broke his hand is just pathetic and a poor reflection of his character. What next? Is he going to lie to his teammates on the field about where he positioned himself to play on his opponent. Team sport is all about trusting your teammates and earning trust back and if he can't do that he should piss off and play another sport, because frankly we have more trustworthy players with lass talent than De Goey who now get their chance to play in front of him. I hope our 3 man leadership group really gave it to him in front of the entire senior list; not just the 3 match penalty that he got but the humiliation of having to explain his actions to his teammates.
