Sir Alex Ferguson Retires

After 26 years as manager for Manchester United, Sir Alex Ferguson has decided to step down as Manchester United manager from the end of the season. He'll be taking up a new role within the club starting from next season.

The early tip to replace him is Everton manager David Moyes.

BREAKING NEWS: Sir Alex Ferguson is retiring as Manchester United manager after 26 years in charge of the English Premier League club.

Ferguson, 71, guided United to 13 Premier League titles - including this season, and two Champions League crowns.

In a statement, the Scot said: "The decision to retire is one that I have thought a great deal about and one that I have not taken lightly. It is the right time.

"It was important to me to leave an organisation in the strongest possible shape and I believe I have done so.

My money's on Jose Mourinho. Chelsea think they have him, but I wouldn't be surprised if Man U swoop with an offer that can't be refused.

It looks like Everton manager David Moyes will be Manchester United's next manager. If Moyes secures the job, it's likely that Wayne Rooney will hand in a transfer request due to their poor relationship at Everton where Moyes actually tried to sue Rooney once.

Nothing can denigrate Alex Ferguson's record. He will remain as the greatest manager in the history of British football. No one will ever compare. Never forget his record is across British borders. He was already an absolute legend in Scotland before he became the greatest manager ever in England.
You can dislike him etc etc, and I'm no Man U or Aberdeen fan, but for gods sake - 16 league titles!!!

I wanted to add a piece I had written on Ferguson

It was an end of a very successful era when Alex Ferguson announced his retirement from managing Manchester United. The announcement of the retirement now has come as a surprise, not so much his retirement as it's been expected.

These days it's rare to see a manager last more than 10 years at the one club, let alone the 27 that Sir Alex has managed. One of it not the best manager of our team and maybe even all time.

In the contrast of years served as a manager he's 11th on the all time record table behind Bob Jack who served as manager for 28 seasons at Plymouth Argyle from 1910 under 1938.

Going to be strange not seeing Sir Alex on the sidelines violently chewing around on that gum, turning redder than Eddie McGuire on a weekly basis.

It's interesting to see that some United fans are already saying if they don't win the title next season they'd be less inclined to want Moyes to see another year.

Perhaps City figured the same feeling was shared by their fans so they moved to sack Mancini. Hmm.
