Don't think so. There has been no talk about it, plus if we sign reef, we dont have any other list spots available for mature players, the remaining list spots for the draft. The Black and White Lion wrote: ↑Fri Oct 25, 2024 12:21 pm Now if Membrey is locked away, are we still in the hunt for an experienced defender. We'll have to wait to see what happens with reef, long, dean
But if all three sign on, we wont have any room for even rookies. So no SSP either. We'll have to go 38 senior, 4 rookie A
With signing membrey if reef gets a new contract, that leaves us with 35 seniors (the max is 38) so last three senior spots are for the 3 picks in the draft.
Also means we have 4 rookies, the max you can have if you have 38 seniors, (6 rookies only if you have 36 seniors)

The other option to the above is that over the next week or so, Reef ( or others without contract ) decide his opportunities are limited at Collingwood, particularly with the addition of Membrey and he informs the club he’s going elsewhere. Not re signing players during the off season is a two way street and a club always runs the risk of alienating or losing a player when they no longer have job security. There may be a bit to still play out yet, especially since Reef isn’t the only one currently in this position at Collingwood.
Historically the club likes to participate in the M S D and they may also prefer for a spot to be freed up for that draft (albeit any L T I also opens up a position)

^ it'll all depend if they are happy to forgo the SSP/MSD given the players we have acquired in the off season --- although we could put HH on the inactive list if they felt he was gonna miss most of next year to free up a MSD spot.

So does that mean that at best we can only keep 1 of Reef, Dean and Long and 2 must go?

The chances of acquiring another LTI are pretty high, it's the nature of the beast. I expect another player to be removed from the list and that unfortunately looks to be Reef.

Surely we take Reef over Long. Long seems one dimensional at afl level whereas Reef has more versatility IMO. Final list lodgements pre draft must be coming soon

No, we can keep both of them. IF we keep Reefstui magpie wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 7:04 am So does that mean that at best we can only keep 1 of Reef, Dean and Long and 2 must go?
We will have 34 (will be 35 with membrey) + 3 at the draft, thats the max senior list spots you can have, but means we can only have 4 rookies rather than 6, and if we sign Long (and dean obviously) We'll be at the max 4 spots. Meaning we can't partake in rookie draft or SSP or MSD (but I'm sure someone will get a long term injury before then)

3 senior spots, great thanks @Jen2310! Lalor, Armstrong and Berry please, no don't be silly they'll be gone. Jack Whitlock, Jonty Faull and Jesse Dattoli, no they'll be gone too. Sims, Stumpf, Nicholls, Mraz, Guerrin, Burmeister and all those other talls probably gone too. Last tall standing and Luke Quaynor and Isaiah Markovsky will have to do then.

Ahh, thank you, I think I get it. Even though uncontracted, Reef, Dean and Long are currently on our list and are counted in the 34. So we could keep all 3, take our 3 picks in the draft, move HH to the LTI list and have one spot left for Rookie, SSP or MSD.Jen2310 wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 12:44 pmNo, we can keep both of them. Gosh, I hope it is not Reef. I prefer to pay AJ out, he has dropped off a cliff.
Big 'IF' Reef is delisted, I assume no other club felt he was worthy of a trade, which would be a lesson/surprise.

I'd go with a tall at each end, and then Doug Kerr from our NGA program. The Black and White Lion wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 1:07 pm .Last tall standing and Luke Quaynor and Isaiah Markovsky will have to do then.
Here is what the boys at Craft to the Draft say about Kerr and Quaynor (who is more likely to be added to our vfl side, as there is questions on his offensive nature of his game)

Re: Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player discussion
Yes 2 best available talls would be good, pity the best ones will be gone. Would Kerr be a rookie prospect also given his acl recovery or would he get interest from other clubs too? I forgot about our other NGA Tadgh McCarthy but I’m uncertain if we’d draft raw NGAs given Fly’s seniors only approach. I really didn’t like those words from Fly and reckon that bodes poorly for our NGA prospects. Hopefully I’m wrong and they do have a credible chance

Re: Trade Targets ~ Free Agency & MSD player discussion
Limited list spots makes it tough, if we had a spare cat b rookie spot, we could just add one of the NGA's to that if undrafted, but with Parker and the potential signing of Condon, makes cat b list full. The Black and White Lion wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 5:27 pm Yes 2 best available talls would be good, pity the best ones will be gone. Kerr is almost 5 months post ACL surgery, he should be back in training in a couple months. He would suit the type of mid we need. 192cm, big bodied, strong, dominant around stoppage, can go forward, can play back can take marks. At our last pick it would be worth the punt.
But if not, I reckon he'll go on our vfl list and he'll still be eligible next year.
