Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
In the assumption that we'll sign just 2 DFA's, which way do we go?
I think Tomlinson is almost a given. So it could be just a Hayes Vs Membrey. And what does that mean for Krueger?
Tomlinson:
Age 31.
193cm.
Key Defender.

Hayes:
Age 28
193cm.
Key Forward/Ruck.

Membrey:
Age 30
188cm.
Key Forward.

Which 1, or 2 of these guys are you going for?

Well, Hayes and Kreuger are like for like, one game a season sort of players.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
I think Membrey is in.. a very good AFL player ready to add pressure to the 22. In my book similar forward quality to Checkers. Could have 3 years in him.
Tomlison 31 would be good to have, but I don't think he is a Barass. I think we have Dean, Frampton, Eyre and the Mid season draft.
Hayes gives me the X factor feel. A boom or bust but he edges out Tomlinson.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
If I could only choose one, I'd opt for Membrey. Would shore up our forward line depth and is capable of kicking 30+ goals a season.
Not a huge wrap on Tomlinson personally. If we do take him I won't mind it as he comes cheap.
Hayes is too injury prone. He's an undeniable talent, but he gives me Kreuger 2.0 vibes.

Leppa said we have ONE spot available for one of these DFA. Feels like it'll be membrey.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
All will come cheap and it's who is the best fit. Membrey is more versatile despite being a couple of inches shorter. If he comes in someone goes out.
Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
I think Membrey will be taken in the hope he'll possibly take over from Elliot, hoping that he can give us another 2+ years after Elliot retires. Statistically pretty similar, though Jamie is way better on pressure acts (15 vs 9). I find it odd that StK is basically throwing him away after what his output was last year (2nd highest goal scoring with 30, equal second on average of 1.6pg).
If we're only taking one and it's Membrey then the club had better commit to one of the other key defenders after they finish the pre-season. Select them and leave them in the role. No more shuffling around from defense to forward to ruck. Frampton looked fantastic early in the season and then faded out. Dean looked good at times, but also appeared somewhat slow.
I wonder if Tomlinson and Hayes could be convinced to join our pre-season in the hope of gaining SSP signing?

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
Any chance we bring Membrey in and play him forward and move checkers back ?
Checkers was a defender and could play FB moving Moore to CHB
We could also use JDG more forward with Perryman in the middle also we have Allan who could get far more opportunities in the middle

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
Tomlinson for me. The back-line was one competent tall defender short all season and at times it really cost us. Tomlinson will go a long way to plugging that hole.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
I feel like Tomlinson would be our most needed acquisition but I don’t overly rate him, particularly as a key defender.
Hayes would be a very handy addition but he just can’t get on the park. Unless that medical convinced the club otherwise, I really don’t see the value of investing in him. Imagine the constant frustration, if those past trends follow and we have both Krueger and Hayes out injured all season.
Membrey brings one thing to the table that the others don’t, he plays senior football regularly. He’s also proven he’s up to the level, week in, week out.
The key messaging in the D F A conversations have been all about depth. I don’t think we’re expecting Membrey to replace Miochek, Elliot or McStay but he comes more as insurance if any of the above are injured or need to be managed ( which is quite likely and also a luxury we didn’t have in 2024 )
As long as the Saints don’t resign him to a new contract, I would expect Membrey joining Collingwood makes the most sense of the three possibilities mentioned and potentially Tomlinson also comes along for the ride … or not.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
Membury seems more like a ready made payer but Hayes gets me more excited. Seems to have loads of talent and just needs a good run without injury to make a go of it.

Re: Membrey Vs Hayes Vs Tomlinson
So Mitch Cleary says Collingwood have gone with Membrey and will be announced officially on November 1. He also said the early signs were for Hayes but we switched to Membrey.
I wonder what this means for Tomlinson, and if Hayes is a complete no for us now?

Leppa's interview gave the vibe there was only 1 spot for a player of experience. They were weighing up Membrey v Tomlinson
They chose Membrey over Hayes Mitch said.
